| mate probly just had a huge buildup of junk that has cascaded into the main mouth that leads to all the vents, mine is still the same cos I cant be bothered cleaning the system and cant afford to get it done by someone else |

The vent control flaps are vacuum operated from the back of that little selector dial (well...it is in the exec, I'm not sure about climate control ones).
It would be worth checking the condition of the vac hoses that plug into the back of the selector. If one of the hoses has split they 'default' to pointing at the feet. You may have started to hear a bit of a hissing noise too, not always but it will be there somewhere.
Take the heater control panel out and check the vac hoses there, the vac block and the switch itself. |

thanks guys will take it it apart and see what turns up
so it isn't gonna be a quick fix, like say a blown fuse or relay? |

| If the fan wasn't blowing at all, then there is a chance that it would be a blown fuse, but since it is blowing, but only down at your feet, I'm going to say that it's at least a 1 beer job, probably 2 if you've never pulled the heater controls out before. Just take it slow, and you'll get it done okay, all you need is a phillips head screwdriver. |

i finally get around to fixing the problem and i'm still stumped after wrestling with the dash, i find the VAC pipes i think the problems with the heater unit, it doesn't 'suck' air to open the servos (or the pumps to the door flaps)
i'm sure it's not the pipes, because i open the flaps by hand, and put my finger over the tube opening which stops it from closing due to the vacumm.
can anyone please help? i've taken the dash apart and don't want to put it on again and then take it off here are some picts |

Damn...you did go the whole hog. Did you check the vac pipes at the heater control dial? Most of the time that's where the problem is. The vacuum isn't supplied by the heater unit, it's supplied by the engine. Have a look at the throttle body, on the back of that there is a little black tube, it runs towards the firewall, it eventually goes into a t-piece. One end then runs into the vac ball (big black ball in the front passenger wheel arch) the other runs into the cabin for the heater controls. I'm still going to say that it's probably one of these pipes is split or kinked. Check out the vac hoses.
If you're unsure what I'm on about, I'll try to get a few pics to you. |

hi Mouce yeh, i fully removed the entire dash, and i tell ya, that bolt at the top of the dash was a doozy! i'm guessing i didn't have to remove the entire thing huh?? anyway, it's electronic control, so i dont have dials (damn)
i checked the throttle body, and theres only one tube that goes into a T piece, one end runs to firewall, but hte other routes into the wheel arch via the airbox and into nothing! the the VAc ball, is that in front of the wheel or behind it in the arch? i'm rEALLY STUMPED! i've been told it oculd be the heater unit, but i think the vac might be more accurate but i don't see a pipe or VAC anywhere!! and yes pelase, picts would help!

First up PM sent.
Second...that black hose that goes in under the air box...that's the vac line. If you follow that through the panel, you should find that it's plugged into the vac ball (front of the passenger side wheel well). If it isn't then I think we've found your problem.
Also...as for pulling out the dash, no you probably didn't NEED to do it (best start with the simple things first) but it's a good experience, it means that you'd be a lot more comfortable doing stuff like this in the future. But for this...there's probably a more simple explanation for your problem. |
