Hi there folks,
Have recently acquired a 91 VN which has been bodykitted and lowered. There is a vibration which occurs under accceleration between 40 and 50kph (worst in 2nd, but still noticable if can be kicked down earlier).
Have had driveshaft rebalanced, and replaced uni's, rear suspension bushes, balanced wheels and replaced engine mounts. It has made the vibration less, but still very much noticable.
Any thoughts on where to go next?

Possible that your steering rack is doing it. When those are on the way out, they start to wobble around a bit at all speeds but really badly at one speed band.
Is it a vibration coming up through the transmission, through the steering wheel, through the pedals? Could be lots of things. |

Center bearing was checked and found to be recently replaced.
The vibration seems to come up through the seat, rather than the steering or pedals.
Have acquired a new set of plugs and leads, to see if that helps. |

| Raised it back up to stock height, made no difference. Will try the whiteline adjustable top arms next. (Suspension dudes reckon they can get them in to NZ ok). Anyone played with these before? |

There is something a bit odd in that department, now that you mention it. When getting up to the cruise, it seems to lock up (revs drop to under 2000 at 100kph. Then if I back off slightly to maintaing speed, there is a momentary surge in engine revs (no more than a second or two) then settles bak down.

So the car appears to idle fine? You take off then as you start to pick up speed the car starts to vibrate and make a hell of a noise, but it sometimes settles down?
If it is like that, then I know what it is. I had the issue I just stated with the VP and it annoyed me for a while, then found that one of my coil packs was faulty after some auto joints told me I needed a full engine re-build. There was spark from the faulty coil in idle, but only a small amount and under load it would crap it's self. I hope that helps...

| I know you said your centre bearing was ok, but try playing around with the spacing between the bearing and floor pan. When I saved mine from the scrap, it's ass was dragging on the ground, and the vibration rattled ya teeth. after putting it back up near standard height the vibration wasn't as bad. Kept playing around and got the spacing good, vibration all but gone. The other cause could be the bearings on their way out in the trans. |

It is comming from under the seats? Did u check the exhaust? If not, i reckon it has something to do with the trans. Is there anything else under the car where the seats are that could cause it???? theres nothing but trans is there? |
