I think it's possible to fit the front brakes from a VT, so long as you've got 15" rims. Though if you're going to do that, it's a good move to upgrade the rears (to keep it balanced), do the calipers as well (dur) and to give a nice pedal (instead of a mushy p.o.s) upgrading the master brake booster is a good move too...
Google it, it's a fairly common upgrade.
And where is that paddock??? We should have a meet there :)
Now this might sound kinda crazy, but as soon as I jumped in a car, I was happy to slide it. And I put that down to one thing, the thousands of hours I have spend playing computer car racing games. Everything from the original Need For Speed all the way through to GT4, and everything in between. Just on TOCA touring cars I clocked up more than 500 hours much to my parents dissapointment. Games like those taught me how to initiate the slide, how to control the slide, what would cause me to spin out, and what would cause me to straighten up a bit. As soon as I found myself behind the wheel of a real car, it was just a matter of translating the keyboard commands to my feet and hands...easy.

Yeah Ive gotten used to sliding now but spinning out in front of oncoming traffic in a car youve had for 2 days is quite unnnerving to say the least... my brakes are deteriorating quicker than i can find a bloody job tsk tsk tsk |

| I found that my brakes were starting to get a little spongey, so I had a good look at them, turns out that the pads were fine, but the rotors were well stuffed. New set of rotors are easy enough to fit, I just went with the stock VN ones, and between those and a new set of pads...damn...that sucker pulls up fast. |

There's already another three page thread on this forum, four would be new...five would be nice, so long as it's meaninful and not just post whoring.
The longest thread I've ever come across went to more than 20 pages so we've got a LONG way to go before we get there. LOL

I'm hoping and praying that it's in Victoria! Hopefully not too far from Melbourne, but I'm willing to travel :)
How large is the field? I mean are we talking about something the size of a tennis court or are we talking about something the size of a footy oval? |

6 point rollcage? What the hell do you plan on doing with your VN? You could drop it off the top of a building and it would just bounce.
If you're doing something that is going to require a 6 point cage, then might I also suggest that you do full seam welds on the rest of the body as well, instead of the little spot welds at the moment. Clearly your car is about to be turned into a track car. Full seam welds will just hold together a lot better that's all. |

yeah Im gonna be doing track work and I also need to stiffen the body a bit... actually alot... also wanna comply with both CAMS and ANDRA specs just in case I ever do get inside 11's at calder (cousin paid $50 ran a first pass of 10.90 [BT1 VL Turbo} got sent home n told to return when he had a six point cage) Safety is also a major concern since you can hit some very high speeds on some tracks |

Being able to set up a car that can handle both track AND drifting is a really big ask. Beause essentially the two are completely different in terms of what they require from the car. One requires high grip levels, the other requires lower levels and a bit of other stuff too...
You'll need fully adjustable front and rear suspension to get the most out of it. That's just for starters.
I don't think you're aiming too high, but you might have to build a car that's a bit of a compromise between track/drift, you might be able to build it to 80% potential for each, rather than 100% potential for one thing.
If you need to stiffen the body heaps, then I'd REALLY recommend full seam welding. What sort of times are you aiming at? I mean lugging all the extra weight of a 6-point cage in a daily driver is going to really slow things down a bit, but with what you're talking about doing to the car, I don't blame you for wanting it. |

Yeah I found this place that fabricates everything (it took me ages to find one in melbourne so here you are if you need it http://www.malvern-group.com.au/default.htm ) and yes i am looking at fully adjustable suspension and this place does it too, it also does full spec CAMS/ANDRA/drift/FIA cages...everything and a six point chrome moly welded cage weighs 45kg so Im not that worried, plus its better than taking out life insurance when driving a turbo VN, hell it will BE my life insurance. As for times, I want it to be the FASTEST Aussie V6 (hope that doesnt make me eccentric lol)so currently were looking at a time of about 9.8 seconds and about $40k because Im modifying from scratch and I get major discounts (Girlfriends cousin is head of the Victorian Circuit Racing Club... races a Mini n a HQ... totally off the topic}
And yes johhny cade I said the same thing everytime I drove through... How the f**k did they get it there and why the f**k did they put it there in the first place???? I havent gotten the job yet...we'll see.....booyah |

A full chrome moly cage at only 45kg? I can understand that...I thought you might have done something stupid like make it out of tubular steel. Sounds like this thing is going to be a total weapon.
Fastest Aussie produced V6? Hmmm...at the moment that's sitting around 9.8 (as far as I know), so by the time you're finished you should aim to have it low nines. Otherwise some prick will beat you to it and you'll be left with the second fastest car...who wants that?
Oh yeah...one more thing...BOOYAH! |

lol BOOyAH its all about funds...enough planning and money and you can do almost anything... im in the planning stages, doing my research cos i wanna get this thing right the first time... Maybe we can redefine the meaning of Aussie Muscle and kick it with the V8 turbo boys....while smacking the n/a V8's outta the park..and turn the VL TURBO boys into the VN TURBO boys lol (Cant stand the thought of the BA XR6T being the next VL Turbo..) what do you guys think??? Is it worth it?? Is it technically possible to engineer something like this??? I say we'll give it a try... BOOYAH |

It's not hard to blow the n/a V8's away (up to street legal speeds) even running a stock V6. I got pulled over the other day on the on ramp to the Eastern Fwy. I was next to a police car, the lights went green and I put the foot down. No wheel spin, no speeding, I just got to the speed limit as fast as my car could. Just so happened that I got to the speed limit before the police car, so they pulled me over and wanted to make sure that the 'modifications' were legal.
Should have seen their faces when I told them (quite truthfully too) that with the exception of the POD filter, the car is completely STOCK. One of the cops actually used to own a VN, so he managed to convince the other officers that I wasn't pulling anyone's leg.
Anyway...what's wrong with the BAXR6T (or the BFXR6T even) becoming the next VL turbo? A turbo is a lazy way for a manufacturer to make an otherwise ordinary car into a 'sports' car. Don't get me wrong, aftermarket turbos on large capacity engines which are set up properly, ROCK!, but factory turbos just to try to make the car sell better??? Please!
The only substitute for cubic inches is more cubic inches. Well...a turbo doesn't give more cubes does it?
Hell...the VL wasn't even an Australian engine, it was a Nissan engine! Whilst technically the VN came from a Buick, there were quite a few modifications made by GMHA before it was fitted into the VN.
BOOYAH!
With enough money anything is 'technically possible to engineer', at least in the automotive world anyway. Is it worth it? If it's something you're passionate about (which it seems you are), and it's something that you want to do...doesn't that make it worth it?

Just dont want a ford being as popular as a holden.... the VL turbo has a cult status, like it or not some amazing things have been achieved with those RB30ET's and as far as I'm concerned, they're holdens lol as for my VN since im committed to doing it, I'll need a name for it.. Any Suggestions??? I mite just call it lol hehe BOOYAH |

Just so that you can see if you can get the plates you want: https://www.vplates.com.au/plateorders.asp
A few that I checked that were taken or impossible: BOOYAH B00YAH 9SECVN IRACE GONE
A few that I checked that were available: RACEVN FLYNVN MOUCE (sorry, but I had to check that one). HARDVN
As for a name for the car itself...I've got no idea.
Don't get me wrong, I think the RB30ET is a strong engine, but the problem is that the STOCK motor has gained cult status, I've got no problems with people worshipping the guys who mod the motors to make them run 10 seconds or better, but people worshipping a STOCK VLT commodore as some sort of hero car...come on! 19" mags and a lowered suspension doesn't make it a balls out racer people!!! |

lol...u checked mouces name for plates? now thats kinda creepy. I cant help but get the feeling you like the word BOOYAH!...lol...its an awsome word and should be used repeatedly in ones lifetime. As for the cops mouce, my dad had his old VN torn to shreds cause they didnt believe that it was stock...and when they were done, they DIDNT put it back together after them... I got pulled over in my COMPLETLY stock VN the other day, i think the cops are just to affraid to acctually move past the light faster then a K a day...they all suck in a tunnel |
