As long as a few regulars are always here to help out the n00bs then it's all good. The forum will keep going. I sure hope it does.
BTW: I'll add my score of 91.05 (a few years ago now) and raise you a Bachelor of Science degree (specialising in applied physics and applied maths), 6' tall and 65kg. And because of my height, I don't care how much of a tank you are, I don't back down. LOL!!!
What's really funny is that you guys think that weight matters. A good fighter knows how to use his opponents weight against him, if there isn't much weight, then there is less to use. Also...being light has it's advantages...in a drag race, I'm 50kg ahead of your guys!!!
This has turned into a top thread. LOL...at least it puts a smile on my face. |

| While we're on the topic of power steering (for a change), how much free play do you guys have in your steering? Because I'm starting to think that mine is getting a bit dodgy on me. It could just be the rubbers in the front suspension though. Any ideas? |

Lol physics shmysics hehe no hole remember, slightly loose seal...seal that tightens when pump expands... no hole... more pressure means seal tightens and does its job as it is not loose anymore, yeah.... so there is no passage left for a leak unless.... more pressure is exerted, and the seal overextends since it wasnt designed to take so much pressure and then its sprays as mist... but were not talkin bout that were talkin about making the seal do its job... right??? btw Im not trying to offend anyone so if anything sounds offensive its simply light hearted banter... comprende |

Might be something to look into I guess. It might just be a wheel alignment...haven't had one done for a while. It's not chewing tyres out though, well...not any more than cornering at 70kph :)
BTW: It's pretty clear that we were all mucking around, this forum doesn't have stuff like that go on for real. |

lol a 13yrold is in jail for 8 yrs for killing an 18 yr old with an umbrella, also it seems that VNs need wheel alignment every 2 months and mine feels like i almost got no pwr steering but of course that could be true and also mouce just for the record moi est 6'2" and now 104 kg lmao anyway
Also wondering if you guys have trouble turning in the wet... I wass doin 70 and slowed down quickly - in about 30m to do a left 90 degree turn, turned the wheels but the car kinda slid/bounced another 2/3m before deciding to turn, what d'yall think... car is very low and at the time was running 14x5.5 with new rubber???? |

that would depend. how fast were u goin when u turned the wheel? If u were doin near 70km when u turned in the wet i could only expect the car to slide a bit...but hell if worst comes to worst just do a drift around the corner...
10 points if you dont hit the side :D

14x5.5??? No wonder you had trouble turning in the wet. I've got the stock steel 14" rims on mine, and I've got 195 tyres on there at the moment, and in the wet I might as well be driving on the rims. I'm impressed you managed to slow down!
Turning in the wet on any tyre on the stock rim is a big ask...you've got to remember just how much weight there is, and how little rubber there is. I have the same problem on wet grass even at walking pace. Just tries sliding. Having new rubber will only help a bit, let's face it...the contact patch with the road is SFA. Wider tyres...
Seen my thread about the tyres I'm looking at for the 'ceptors? I reckon I could almost corner in the wet at 70 with either of them.
BTW: Drifitng corners in the wet in a VN is damn hard, because they are so unbalanced, the throttle is way too touchy to drift properly with in the wet, they loop way to easily. Do it in the dry, it might eat tyres a little faster, but it's a lot easier to control.
P.S. Drifting on public roads is just stoopid...I'm not saying that it doesn't get done...I'm just saying it shouldn't. Especially now that the cops in Victoria have the power to confiscate your car for being a 'hoon'. Those laws come into effect as of July 1st. |

lol i wasnt serious about the drift around the corner thing. I share your views on street racing. If theres a chance someone who has nothing to do with it could get hurt then dont do it.
I have no where near the experience needed to even drift in the dry. Ive got 2 years driving experience...lol im only 17 |

Drifting in the dry in a commodore is much easier to control. Any fool can break the back out in the wet in a VN, hell...I had to go to to a mates place the other day and it had been raining...found that even in fourth, doing 80, it was a little bit of a crab walk effort, and that was in a straight line. That said...trying to drift in the wet the back end will just snap around and it'll loop. In the dry is much easier.
I know I shouldn't do it, but sometimes when I used to leave uni (there is a large round-about near the front entrance, I need to turn right through that)...well...generally everyone just wanted to get home as quickly as possible so they didn't always sit and wait and let you in as they should by law. Well...sometimes I just got sick of sitting there...it's amazing how quickly people will stop and clear the intersection when there's a VN drifting through the round-about :) Second gear, lots of revs and plenty of counter-steer. Never looped it in the dry. Never drifted there in the wet because I did loop it in the wet once, wasn't even trying to drift either. Second day I had the car, I was used to getting around in an excel (manual), well...it rained, and on the on-ramp to the eastern freeway...all of a sudden I was facing the wrong way.
I don't play funny buggers anymore, sort of grew out of it a bit I guess. I'm not saying I don't get to the speed limit as fast as my car will allow, but no drifting or burnouts anymore, not on public roads anyway. BTW: My VN will happily pull 230kph and still feel like it has a bit more (private air-field) scary as **** though. |

thats cool i wish that i had the guts to take mine that fast. it dets the speed wabbles at about 170-180, thats scary enough. as for drifting i think an LSD is in need casue i've tried to slige it ropund a few corners but it only breaks out into a single for 150m up the road 1st-2nd-3rd. the only time that mine will crack twin wheels is in the wet or if i do a brako and a bit of crabbing. before i got the 17's i used to come out of work at 11 at night n' sling it accross 4 lanes of highway its so much fun, gotta cut it out now got busted one night when i left half the town in smoke and also i got 17's the rubber costs too much. |

I found that the wobbles more or less vanished at about 180kph in mine...I put that down to the downforce was enough to have finally taken any play out of the suspension, either that or the shocks had faded to the point where the wheels weren't on the ground too often.
I've found that my open diff will twin-spin if I'm in second, as I said, second gear and lots of revs...she just twin legs...don't know why. It's just a stock open diff. When I finally finish my suspension upgrade I'll look at the bank account and consider an LSD. Not to drift, just to help me get it moving in the wet, traction is shocking at the moment.
Just so you know, the top speed of a VN commodore (going on engine speed and all the ratios to the ground) is about 270kph. I really don't want to push mine that hard, but it's impressive to know it can get there. Tested it in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. God that game was good. |

270 sh!t, I'll try it out... my car club is doin a 6 hour private trial at Phillip Island wooohooo costs $1300 per team but you can drive road registered cars with only a level 2 speed CAMS licence and btw the VN plus wet road plus corner and crazy torque usually means spinning out, took me 3 times in front of oncoming traffic to learn that lesson... scary as hell and also does anyone else in a stock auto chirp the tyres in 3rd under full throttle or is it my stuffed transmission plus a bumpy road??? Best way to turn a VN on wet grass is to use the handbrake and guide it through with the steering wheel even though the body is so flexible it groans as if its gonna twist.. :) lessons from round 3 Victorian Motorkhana Championships, Moorabin Airport, came second in Class N (wheelbase over 2200mm)driving the heaviest and downright worst motorkhana car there... what can i say lol VNs will happily drift in the dry or at least mine will....and my engine is buggered... I LOVE MY VN (spoken in adoring tone...as one would talk to a baby) Keep the thread goin... some more debates please :) lol |

My gfs dad is taken me out to a completly flat paddock to teach me slides...he built it especially for the purpost of tearing it up in a car...should be interesting |
