Cars on their own tend not to kill people. The problem is when people use them irresponsibly. My car sitting in the garage isn't going to do anyone any harm (except maybe my bank account), if I felt like driving it flat out through the local shopping strip, I'm sure I could maim a few people.

Cars do not kill people, it's the decisions that people make while in control of the car that kills people.

It's kinda like the TAC claiming that speed kills (and this is a favourite rant of mine). It isn't the speed that kills you, it's the very sudden stop. I know for a fact that my car can quite comfortably do 200kph, it has done so more than once, but I'm not dead...for the simple fact that I didn't stop in a tree or another car...I stopped in the open at the end of a runway. That said, I'm sure that if you were doing even 60kph and had a head on with a car doing 60kph going the other way (closing speed of 120kph for anyone left wondering), you'd all be fairly well fu&ked up by it. So it's not the speed that kills, it's the stopping that hurts. Otherwise what about all those jet fighter pilots? It's not uncommon for a fighter pilot to end up at Mach 1.5 or Mach 2, now unless they slow down by flying into the side of a cliff it's not too much of an issue.

And just for the record, if I'm doing 110kph or 115kph and I slam into a car coming the other way doing 110kph (closing speed of either 220 or 225kph) there isn't going to be a lot left of me, so what good is wiping off five going to do? There are only two ways to make the roads safer a) ban cars or, b) better driver training programs. And I can't see people wanting to ban cars :)

As for abusing cars? Why do it at all? It shouldn't matter if you are in a controlled environment or not, you should never 'abuse' your car. I'm all for a little spirited driving in a controlled environment...but mechanical abuse just isn't cool.

Also...Soap Opera? You want that then watch "Days of our lives", I think it's safe to say that we're all here for the cars.

Sorry about that...it could have been much longer...I told you, it's a favourite topic of mine.

Oh an yes, school speeders **** me up the wall...they should all burn in hell screaming like this AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OH GOD IT HURTS SO BAD! AHHHHHHHH WHY DID I SPEED AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *cough* AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Did you all hear about the tram driver in Melbourne? Got picked up for doing 57kph in a 40kph zone?

Also...interestingly, it's possible to get booked for speeding on a pushbike (a guy at work got done), and you can also be booked for drink driving if you drive your ride-on mower to the shops while you're plastered.

Other strange things, you can get booked for being drunk on the back of a horse, you can get done for drink driving on a bike, you can get done for speeding on roller skates (and I'm not kidding).

I also believe that you can get booked for speeding and/or being drunk if you're in control of a billy-cart, but I find that one a bit hard to believe.

Did you know that in the city of Melbourne it's illegal to fasten the lead of an elephant to a light pole? The same stands true for circus animals as well. So I guess that goes out as a warning to you all...next time you take your elephant into town, make sure that you don't tie it to a light pole.

As for the law in the states, you've gotta remember that just about anything is legal in some states. I did hear of a strange one though, and I think it came from somewhere in the south, but in one state it's illegal to cross the state border with a duck on your head. There are some wonderful laws out there isn't there? LOL.

Actually, I'm not super bored, just crook. Every second person in Melbourne at the moment has a really strange kinda cold, it comes and goes over a couple of weeks. Really sucks, since I'm not up to doing much other than playing computer games and celebrating my cars 18th birthday (yesterday), I've got a bit of time to spend here.

At least I've been kinda productive, there's a new how-to for anyone thinking of putting in aftermarket gauges. I will warn you though, it's a big one.

Anyway...you say I'm bored...who was the one of us who was here at 2:42AM? LOL.

How is doing 200kph on a private air strip abusing my car? It's not taking the engine to redline, I didn't jump on the brakes to stop at the other end, in fact I used engine braking to get me to 130kph before I started to use the brakes, at no point did I break traction, and there is no way in hell that my car could have cornered at that speed so I kept it in a straight line.

There's no abuse there as far as I'm concerened, I didn't redline the engine on any of the gear shifts either, I was shifting at or below 4000rpm (redline is 5600rpm). I made sure it was in perfect running order before I did it.

Abuse is when people go out to do massive burnouts by going "hey...I'm cool...I can do a burnout in second if I redline it and side step the clutch". If the shock-load going through the driveline doesn't snap a uni joint or strip the splines off the drive shaft there's a good chance that it will either blow your diff to pieces or make your water pump go pop. Not to mention how nasty it is to actually take the engine to redline. Abuse is when people think "hey, let's see how it sounds doing 100kph in second". That's abuse.

And possibly the worst form of abuse that I've seen done was "lets see what happens when I get it to redline and shift straight from neutral to drive". In that case the housing of the auto trans actually cracked.

Doing 200kph in a straight line on an air strip in a car that was in as good mechanical condition as any 17 year old commodore could hope to be in isn't that bad.

I'm sorry if it came across as a bit agro before, didn't mean it to.

Just checked out that story, took a bit to track it down, but I got it. The police have said "there's been some suggestion they were racing, so speed may have been an issue". Well DUR!!! Looking at the condition that those cars were in I don't think they were doing 50-60 when they hit.

I'll agree with you though, people who do **** like that ON THE STREETS don't deserve their cars. People who do things like that with other people in the car don't deserve to have friends. Simple as that.

I see no harm in people wanting to wind their speedo off the dial, so long as they are the only one in the car and it is not on public streets. That way they are only a danger to themselves, if their driving (or the car) is not up to it. The only person who should pay for stupidity is the person who is stupid enough to unnecessarily risk the lives of other people.

Controled condition driving is the only place those speeds belong. You drive around my town and you see the street racers, even THEY only do it in controled conditions, they go down where no one ever goes, on the straight lines, none of this fast and the furious ****.
@mouce "people who do **** like that ON THE STREETS don't deserve their cars. People who do things like that with other people in the car don't deserve to have friends. Simple as that" Couldnt be any more true.

Well, he he he...MONKEY! im so pissed, someone smashed the monkeys window and stole my $690 head unit and my $1300 sound system from my boot...but worst of all, and this is gonna stab me in the side for the remainder of my life. THEY SCRATCHED THE ****ING PAINT!

Mate, that sucks in a big way. I mean...the h/u and amps and stuff is one thing (and with my car that's what I'd be more worried about), but given what you've just spent on just getting it sprayed...how bad is the scratch?

The next step is to sit here and sob for a little wile longer, the scratch is a key mark, they stole the AMPs the speakers (i had a full speaker set up with custom box) and then keyed "thanks for the gear" into my panel...

So ****ed if i know whats next, besides cold blooded murder. Ive got security cameras, so when i find their faces, and find them, ill let you know. then look on the news for the face of johnny cade, the car theif killer :P
