still sounds like a coilpack issue.... do you have a mate with a vn-vr with a coilpack of theirs you could borrow for a bit to see if swapping them over makes a difference? The otehr thing I would check is cross firing between the leads - a simple lead resistance test wont pick this up - it can be done in the dark with the bonnet up, give it a bootfull and see if you can see arcing between leads.

Yes and also dont forget to check inside the throttle body, there is a sensor called the air/idle mixture sensor, this sensor can also be fouled up with gunk and carbon stuff that will also play will the car's idle, but i dont think not enough to cause a car to sound like its farting and coughing on idle, hmmm... also check on the coil pack lead(connector) if there is any cut in any wires or a bad connection there |

Ok guys please bare with me while I explain this because I am female & know nothing about cars.
Please, please, please help me I don't want to spend any more on my car until I have some idea of whats going on.
Here's whats happened so far; Traveling down the highyway our vn just died, had to get it towed home & wouldn't fire. we called a mechanic out & had the crank angle sensor replaced, seem to make things better but there was still a problem. Mechanic said it was the coil pack. The coil pack was boiling to touch & when we realised & took it out it was compleatly fried. I went down the wrecking yard & got a new one, car stated running a bit rough but drivable still the same. A few days later....... Driving down the highway, the car started missing and backfiring. was so bad my partner ouldn't risk driving it home & we called another tow truck. Its coffing & splutering & making a horrible poping sound when you try to fire it, We've noticed that the coil pack we have is getting very slightley hot over one of the coils while the others are stone cold. I took it back to the local wreckers & all they had was a coil pack that was working but the dfi was stuffed so the used the dfi I brought back in & and the coils off the one they had. We've put it in the car & nothing has changed. There is still a slight amount of heat thats comming of one of the coils. My partner & I have no idea what to try next.
*Could it still be that the dfi we got from the wrecking yard was stuffed?
*Should we look at the Computer as a definate possibility? * As far as I know it seems to be getting some amount of fuel so I'm guessing that rules out the fuel pump.
*Would problems with the leads & plugs give that kind of reaction?
Does anyone have any ideas that could help us to find out what the problem is before we spend anymore money? Your help would be very greatly appreciated Thank you Sedonna |
