Hi All,
I have a mate with a VS series 2 ute, when parked and he puts it into gear to secure it from rolling away plus handbrake, but say without the handbrake it rolls as if the gearbox isn't going into gear.
Any quick suggestions as to what it could be?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers, Wes. Loving my VN everyday!

Is it auto or manual?
If it's an auto, it should be going into park not a gear as without the pressure behind it it can't engage a gear, however it can lock up the box in P nicely.
If it's a manual, then I'd suggest looking at the compression of each cylinder, if they are all way low, then the cars weight might be enough to turn the engine over. Other than that, it could be a slipping clutch, or maybe it's just not in gear properly. |

Hey Mouce,
Sorry forgot to state whether its an auto or manual, its a manual. Thanks for the advice i'll pass onto my friend, he's had quite a few problems with the car since getting it, previous engine blew after getting it, he's replaced the engine, and other bits are starting to go now also.
I'll let him know. I think he should get rid of it because its starting to become tad bit lemony.
Cheers, Wes. |

Personally I think that if he's lucky enough to have a ute he should keep it going no matter what happens to it. I'd LOVE to have a ute, but couldn't afford one when I got my car. I'm not saying I don't like my car, but a ute was my first preference.
That said, since it's a VS and that runs the ecoturd engine, swapping back to a VN (sedan) or a VG (ute) might not be a bad thing. The VG ute with the 5spd manual is a WEAPON (if you can find one). And when they get looked after they look a real treat.
One thing to remember is that, as cars age stuff starts to break on them. If we didn't all sink large amounts of time/money into our VN's I'll bet that they'd all be rusting in the local wreckers. Just depends on how much he wants to keep it. |

Thanks for your advice mouce! You're a star! I've replaced struts, suspension, discs, harmonic balancer, radiator, belts, and heaps of other stuff on my VN, but I think its all worth it in the long run. I'll post some pics one day.
Had some cam work, custom CAI, POD filter, top gun leads, iridium sparkys, VY SS Rims, SS bodykit with garnishes, Imperial Blue re-sparay, 2.5" straigh through exhaust, extractors and new cat coming soon.
Its pretty clean, i'll post some pics one day. The only thing is it has VP lights on the front, and the front guards have been changed. It looks like a VP, but underneath its a VN.
Cheers, Wes. |
