Hi all, my Vn series 1 wagon has been a bit hard to start since winter set it but was running well once warm till this morning when I tried to start it. Thought just another cold whinge but would not kick in tho it sounded like it was almost there quite a few times. Have added extra fuel(gauge is temperamental) and had to re-charge battery...still no go. Fuel pump is making the right noise so what should we check next? thanks

Give the coil pack a go. I had to change the series 1 to a series 2 coz the bastard buggered up on me. Check the leads and plugs also. I rekon its electrical. |

If you have HAD to re-charge the battery get a new one. Lead-Acid batteries do not like being drained that much. They tend to have a few problems, when mine was on the way out earlier this year, it took quite a bit longer to start the car. And every time it did, the poor little alternator squealed it's guts out trying to get charge back into it.
How old is the batt in your car? They only last a few years.
Another thing to think about is what oil you've got in there, if the oil is too thick, or too full then you'll have big problems starting it. |

Hi again...ok, checked the plugs, filter, leads and coil and all ok. The only reason the battery went flat was because I got snaky with the car and turned it on till it nearly wouldn't turn on ( not smart i know) and the car has been hard to start all winter and we only just changed the oil and its not overfull |

In having flattened the battery as quickly as you did, check the water level in it. Prolonged cranking of the engine like that really sucks a large amount of current from the battery, and it's quite easy to boil the battery. Needless to say, that isn't good for it. Check the water level...if it's low top it up with De-Ionised water (not tap water, not distilled water) most places like repco/autobarn will have some somewhere, hell...even kmart have got it in most stores.
What oil do you have in the car? |

The oil we used was Shell helix for older cars but the car was hard to start way before we changed the oil |
