YAY 440 KW ROCKS! i put a straight through exhaust system on the project, and it gave it another 50% power boost :D
get this, one of my m8s took his bitsa****ty offroad (to get to a camp site) and got a stick in the wheel well, and when he accelorated, it went through his rear muffler he he he...little bitsa****ty fagna :P

And gets decked before she made it even on her feet,
The old man leaped to her aid and to his horror he’d,
Thrusted his chest into the blade of his robber s piece,
He grabbed the wallet, dropped the knife as he fled the car,
Concerned about the loss of life he’d never went this far,

Welcome back to the forums, but I've gotta burst your bubble, there's already been a LS1-into-VN conversion done. Sure it was dropped into an SS, not an exec but it's been done at least once.

Also, when you're trying to post pictures hosted in photobucket use the one that's got the IMG tag line with it ;) Still...nice car, I haven't seen a stock VN that I don't like yet :)

And as for me 'ripping' into one of th learners in another thread, I was merely pointing out that he had some of his history a little wrong, had to clear it up.

Congrats on the run in with the cops, seems like it's been open season on commodore drivers recently, between you, me and johnny we've all be pulled over recently, and by the sounds of it trizo just can't get away from them LOL! I would have taken down the first cop's name and number and made a written complaint to his station (I've done it before), you normally get a VERY appologetic letter back, and occasionally the penalty can be 'cancelled'.

As you've seen, you haven't missed a whole heap on the forum, but it's good to see that you're back.

Well with all you guys having a 'project' car of sorts. I've finally started to draw up a few plans of my own (gotta save up a hell of a lot yet)...but there's a twist. It's not going to be a commodore. In fact it's not going to even be a Holden. What's even more distressing (for you guys) the motor will remain stock, and I don't want to go fast, I want to go as slow as possible (most of the time).

Here's what is going through my mind at the moment:
Body: Get a Suzuki Siera and take to it with an angle grinder to remove pretty much everything but the floorpan, firewall and engine bay. All I really need it for is the chasis.

Engine: VN V6 (prefer a S1, but can use either)

Suspension: Raise it at least 6"

Gearbox: Haven't decided between the auto or the manual from a GQ patrol

Transfer Case: Hope to use one from a late 90's LandRover. Complete with ultra low-low range gearing, from rock-hopper. Either that or two transfer cases (one LandRover, one Hi-lux).

Tyres: Maxxis Creepy Crawlers http://www.maxxis.com/products/automotive/product_detail.asp?id=64

Rims: Strong a cheap. With mechanical bead locker installed.

Running gear: Modified GQ patrol driveshafts and GQ patrol front/rear diffs. Each with ARB air lockers.

Roll-cage: Full tube rollcage, with frame for rear hi-mount radiator. I want to be able to roll this thing onto it roof and roll it back and just keep driving.

I'd also like to have at least one 9000lb electric winch, at least one good strong spot-light, and a GME TX4600 two way radio http://www.gme.net.au/land/transceivers/tx4600.php Since I don't plan on having a roof or doors, it needs to be waterproof.

I basically want to be able to point this at anything from meter deep mud to a 5' rock ledge and just drive it. I have the off-road skills, having been driving 4WD's since I was 10, I've always wanted my own rock-crawler/mud-buggy and I think that the above combination of parts will be a good compromise between hard-core rock-crawling and fun in the mud.

Any suggestions about things I might have missed?

Hmm...donations...that would imply that I have spare money...not only am I doing my sound system and carputer and suspension and tyres/wheels. I've now got my plans for the outlaw off-roader.

Between my VN and my other expenses (who am I having on? my VN gets all my money, mostly in fuel) I've got nothing to give you. At the moment my pockets are very deep, and my arms are very short. I'm saving for the subs at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I love my job, but 10 hours a week isn't a lot of $$$

Just found an old Series 1 LandRover that I might be able to get for free that I could use as the base instead of the little Suzi. That'll save a few pennies.

LOL...I can't see lolo being in any position to help you out...sounds like he's got enough problems of his own when it comes to money.

Actually...come to think of it...I don't think there's anyone here who isn't in a bad way when it comes to finances. This sucks. The club should be renamed: VN commodore/Oh crap I'm broke club. ;) Hell...I know you're just playing...and even if you weren't you still wouldn't get a cent.

If the missus is scared to drive the car that means that it's all yours to do with what you wish right? Can anyone say: "forced-induction"? LOL, then she'd be scared to be a passenger.

I don't know which would have been worse, ploughing into the animal (what was it?) or bouncing off the median strip. Either way the car is going to get damaged...

it was a wombat...filthy little walking rocks...so id rather the strip :P as for the badgeless look, when i did a bit of spray work, i took my grill, took the badge off it and sprayed it silver, same with the boot flair...looks awsome, i did the front grill, the boot flair (that little bit of plastic on the boot) and the side mirrors...looks fawsome...

Yeah, a wombat will crack open your sump, gearbox and/or diff on the way through. Better off with the median strip with that one.

Trizo, the pod vs panel argument is a good long one... Some say that pods are crap because they only suck hot air, some say that panels are dodgy because they have a higher resistance than the pod...so I say: use the best of both worlds.

Make a custom box for the pod to sit in, and hook a CAI into that. I'll be making one up myself in the next few weeks (since I can't find my last one :( anywhere), so I might do a bit of a how-to with pictures for it. The biggest drawback to a pod is that often it IS left unshielded, and therefore does suck hot air from the engine bay which defeats the purpose. BUT, with a nice box around it and a CAI, you get the true benefit of a pod. Higher flow-rate than a panel filter, and nice COLD air. Stay tuned ;)

BTW: Haven't forgotten about the memcals either guys, just trying to find a suitable EPROM programmer (well...one that isn't on eBay, I'm not a fan of it). Anyone feel like lending me their car to test the first few chips on while I work things out? LOL.

got a spare comp 4 ya mouce??And heres another 1 4 ya don't know if you know much about the automatic g/b's but do u know if there was a change in the gearbox type from vn88 to vn90 cause the box I just put in outa my 90 had a solid cast iorn inspection cover and the 1 from the88 had a thin 2-3mm cover also on the rear of the 88 g.b there was like a weight or a round solid disc bolted 2 the back on it ( tail shaft end)the 90 g/b didnt have it !have u heard of this b4 or has any 1 else basicly y i ask is cause the cast cover will only fit the 90 model motor that it come of but the 2-3mm cover will fit both they are both the same car and every thing but there r quite a few differences!!!

Are you 100% certain that it did come from a 90 VN? The reason I ask that is because they used a slightly different tranny in the VP, and to me that's starting to sound like a VP box rather than a VN one.

Didn't you also say that the inspection plate had been damaged? Could just be a dodgy home-made replacement, not and OEM piece of gear. As for the 'weight' on the rear of it...don't know anything about it, got any pictures?

yeah mate the box is deffintly from a 90 vn it's my other 1 with the snapped crank!I brought the car of a old italian man (nice chap)it was his and did a bit of country drivin! Was a very nice car till I got angry with sum fool and sat on the brake and let go in 1rst then wako the crank wen bubt the box is fine.

The hole in the 88 inspection cover was nasty the drive plate the thing the starter hits wen starting duh!was hanging out so that tells me that the plate was replaced at sumtime cause the wreckers name is on the plate!plus the bolts 2 the housing 50% of them were loose! So mab the box outa the 88 was a vp hadra 46 or watever the fu## they r called but the 1 in my 90 vn was or is orig!

I'll c if I can get sum pics 2 ya still tryin 2 work out how 2 put pics on!

The VP box was officially known by either of two names: the GM Hydra-Matic 4L60 or TH700R4.

There's a chance that the box from the 88 was just something the 'wrecker' had kicking around that looked like the same shape and size. LOL...who knows what it came out of.
