Hi all...
Would love some suggestions or help.....
I started my VN this morning, and then it cut out... It didnt sound like it was firing on all cylinders.... When checking the leads from the distributor cap some of the lead caps had a white residue on them, some of the sparks were dirty too... I tried to restart it a few times but it wouldnt hold, it would cutt out....
Would it be correct in that I need to replace the leads and sparks as well as clean the dist cap??
After fixing this, would everything be fine??
Thanks

| If you can get it to start, pull off each lead off the cap and see which one isnt sparking. then if one isnt try a differant leadand check again. if one lead sparks and another doesnt replace it. if that fails Check the cap and rotor, make sure they are clean. take ur dist cap off and turn the motor over and make sure the rotor is spinning coy. If none of these work replace cap and rotor.50 bucks id think. if that still fails then gotta start looking deeper at ur dizzy and the littl points that throw the spark, sometimes one of these can snap off causing one cylinder to recieve no spark |

V8s run a dizzy. Absolute prick of a location.
Changing the plugs and leads should go some way to fixing it. Especially if they are a little worse for wear. Failing that I'd be looking at the coil pack/s.
Is it a six or an eight? |

Hey guys... just checked out a coil pack, which is what I thought the distributor was... I am used to my uncles fixing Valiants, Classic Holdens, Chargers and my old HJ Ute....
The coil pack is where the leads run into correct?? Do you know how much these would cost?? Would it be worth my wild to change all plus, leads and coil pack at once?? |

Certainly would be.
Most of the V6 guys upgrade to the later series II coils aswell. One of them will be able to give you more info. |

| yeah def go the s2 coil you might get 1 for around $50 from your local wreckers, the s2 coil pack is a lot more reliable than the shoddy s1 coil.. its always a good idea to do your plugs and leads, if you want to spend that bit xtra get the platnium plugs there fairly pricey but you can get a good 100,000kms I think they price at around $20 per plug... and cheer for that mild I have never had anything to do with the vn v8's, learning somthing every day! |

When I got back from overseas I had a rat move in. I kid you not.
The fact he dragged dog biscuits up ontop of the bananas gave it away.
Big ****er rats in Darwin too... |

I'll start from the back of the engine on the drivers side, the leads go to the coil pack as follows
drivers side: rear,6 middle,4 front,2
passenger side: rear,3 middle,1 front,5 c if that helps at all I dont have a camera atm so I can post the pic of the set up, but if you follow that you should have no probs! |

ther really is no need for throwing spanner around the yard to lose them in the long grass when they slip off nuts and bolts.......(except if its an open ender and one of the prongs has just snapped off) Your just going to have to go look for it whe you need it and if you dont your only going to run over it with the mower which will fling it out into your shin......... It sounds like zen..... disrupting the energy in your own back yard will only lead to further consecuences down the track (Karma) Woah deep dude |
