Well i was sick and tired of my crappy old brakes, they could barely stop me. So i finally did the VT upgrade, and im glad to say i did. They are amazing.
I got the kit off ebay for $775, for front only, there is a cheaper kit going for $625, but from a newer seller, and without new bearings. I probably didnt need the bearings anyway, my old ones were fine, and these new ones have some plastic parts on the casing, originals are all metal.
I also got new rear calipers, just standard vn ones though. My old ones were wearing really unevenly, with both rears, one side of the brake pad was completely gone, while the other had around half left. The front pads were hardly worn, all fitted about a year ago. There goes another $320 for the callipers, rotors and pads. $140 for just the calipers, not bad, a local mechanic wanted over $200 just to fit a new kit to my original calipers. Then there was to cost of the kit (he didnt tell me)
So these new rotors are gold electroplated, to stop them rusting, and slotted, its a pitty they are hiding behind my 15 inch interceptors. Im also going to need a new spare, its my old 14 inch, i dont think it will fit around the new brakes... they are massive, something like twice the surface area of the stock VNs.
The new braided hoses also look great, but the old ones were an absolute bitch to get off, and they wont fit to the new VT calipers. hmmm that warm feeling of brake fluid dripping on my hands and legs, probably eating into my skin, and paintwork, i now have shiny finger prints near my door handle :)
The only problem is the brake pedal moves a fair way, without actually doing anything, they guys at the Commodore Shop, down here said i need a double diaphram booster (off a VT i think, $65) which they have, and a 1 inch master cylinder off a VN, which they dont have (about $75) Theres one going on ebay from a VP HSV, starting at $175, buy it now > $300. I'll prob get that, hope it fits.

Did you use the stock resovoir etc? I think a lot of guys get out of it a little cheaper by using some VS parts.

thus meaning you have air in the system, bleed them even without fixing the leak and see if it makes them any better, if so then thats your problem.
Cheers, Nodg. |

Sounds good mate. Get rear braided lines to. I may seem abit over the top but your pedel will feel 5 times better than it would with all the other gear.

I just want to point out that there is a cheaper kit again on holmart.com.au I think its about $500 I havent looked in awhile. Im going to do the same thing when I get the cabage for it. but I also have te same trouble with the pedal it can be a little scary at times when the wife is driving...... back on the topic the kit pretty much includes everything that you need to fit the front VT calliper on the VN which as far as I can tell is just the Callipers and the adaptor.
