I've noticed a lot of threads on here in regards to what do people think of lowering my car / changing lights / adding power etc. It's modifying cars and the enjoyment we get from them that makes us all come here and get involved on the forum so these are all good questions and I'm not suggesting you shouldn't post them.
But, the one thing I'm picking up is that people are going about things rather haphazardly. You want a big tacho. Then Altezza lights. Then maybe some rims... There isn't really a focus of what you want to do, nor how you want your car to end up and what you are hoping to achieve. And the thing is- it shows. We've all seen cars that are a little of this and a little of that and for the most part they look a little poo. Nothing compared to a well thought out and executed car.
So the point of this post- and my advice- is before you spend a single dime on your car, sit down, take a deep breath and actually plan how you want the car to look when you are finished. Break it down into parts: performance including exhaust and suspension, engine bay, interior and exterior including rims. Then let it sit for a few days and think about how happy you are with that decision. Sure, things will change, but having a bit of an idea as to what you want to do with your car and what you don't want to do will save money, time and should make it a project rather than a car. And of course we are always on hand to help you make those decisions ;)
Remember- the only person you need to keep happy is yourself, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks so long as you like it but when you ask for people's opinions- and any time you post online you are asking people's opinion- people will give them to you. And you won't necessarily like them.
But probably the biggest thing to remember is the poor man pays twice. Often when things are cheap they are cheap for a reason and although you can gamble and win sometimes- more often than not you'll lose. Having a plan of what you want to achieve will save you money because you won't be spending and respending and when it comes to performance mods you want everything to work in harmony with one another- so build your motor then your box to suit and then get the diff sorted so it makes the most of the power range.
I've just banged that out really quickly, but hopefully someone will read it and get something out of it.

Not sure if you're taking the piss or not ;)
This thread isn't so we all end up driving the same car- individuality is all part of it. All I'm trying is to get people to stop and think and get a clear picture of where they are going before they start spending dollars. |

In that case get some Simmons FRs.
Although it sounds like common sense to some people- I really hope some people who have never spent money on a car before take something away from the post. There's nothing worse than looking back at how you handled some money and seeing what you could have done to get the most out of it. |
