the speedo isnt working because the gears inside the cluster are broken, the speed sensor(transducer) is electronic and is not gear driven |

The cluster has nothing wrong with it i tested it in my sisters vn same make and model as mine and it worked perfectly. This cluster has been approved by a qualified 2nd hand car parts dealer and he also found nothing wrong with it ?? if here is anyone that could help it would be alot of help ((Cluster IS in working order)) it's got to do with something else other then the cluster itself wires, sensors ect all fuses are new and no problem there |

Are you sure about that Nodg? I know the level 3 cluster speedo is not gear driven. I would be looking at the speed sensor myself. Is there a fault code present?? The code for speed sensor is 24. There is a thread in the 'How to section' on how to read your fault codes. I would be having a look at these before anything else. Check your codes and let me know if 24 is present and i will give you a test proceedure to find your fault. The speed sensor is located in the extension housing of your transmission. @Nodg sorry to say it but your info is not 100% accurate. Yes the speed sensor is a transducer type which is gear driven via the transmission. |

my fuel and temp play up on my lvl 1 cluster, dont know what that is, itll show full tank for a while, slowly drop and then drops rapidly between 3/4 and the red section and will give me around 100-150kms on red section... and the temp gauge doesnt go past 1 notch...
anyone know about that? |

NOJo5H, pretty much 10/10 commodore clusters need to be re soldered to correct the sticky needles. And by the way it sounds, your speedo stopped working after the new cluster? by the way you cant swap vr-vs clusters with vn-p if thats what has been done |

With the temp guage not going past notch one i would be looking at your cooling system. i.e. your thermostat sounds like it is faulty and opening to soon not allowing the engine to reach operating temp. How is the fuel economy?? Usually when this is the case your fuel consumption will be a little bit more than usual. The bit nodg is talking about that may need to be re-soldered is usually the 5 volt voltage regulator for the instrument cluster which is positioned inside your actual cluster. You will need to remove the guages from the cluster to get at it. |

just about every single vn-p suffers from the temp gauge only registering on 1 notch(or none), even with no thermostat the motor will still heat up but will take longer and confuses the ecu and cause it to run with the 'choke' on. @vnsvle, im very positive that the trnsducer is elexctronic, will take photos when i change transmissions this weekend |

Yes it is electronic but i think you will find that it is gear driven. Let us know what you find nodg. |

to tell you the truth i have only pulled them out and replaced them i havent looked inside! but when you think about it, if only the level 3 cluster had a gear driven transducer and i needed a new auto for my 'calais' for arguments sake, i wouldnt go and ask for a calais gearbox. youd just ask for a vn whatever series it is one! |

on the left hand side of the transmission at the end of the extension housing(which is the end of the tranny that the tail shaft joins to) |
