is there any way to wire up a tacho to a VN with a L1 cluster? ive tried the brown wire near the left stut column and that did nothing. ive tried the brown wire with the red stripe under the cluster and that also did nothing. is there an alternate way to do it? like feeding directly off the ecu? or off the crank angle sensor? im sick of pulling my car apart for no reason! please help!

i read elsewhere on the site that someone had a similar problem. but it was due to the coil not having a tacho pick-up pin. i noiticed when i changed my coil-pak that it was missing a couple of pins that were present on the old one. at the time i dissmissed it thinking the car probably didnt need them but now im thinking mabey one was the tacho feed.

All VN's have a tacho feed wire coming to the back of the instrument cluster. This is why you can put a Level 2 cluster into a car without any mods. The tacho signal wire should be PIN 6 on PLUG NUMBER 1. You should be able to get your signal from here. In case you didn't know (i'm sure you do but covering all bases) your signal wire on the tacho should be GREEN. RED being positive(ignition) BLACK being negative.
Good luck and let us know how you go

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

'The tacho signal wire should be PIN 6 on PLUG NUMBER 1.' are u talking about the ecu or the coil pak? if its the ecu is plug no.1 the small one or the big one? and which color is the wire connecting the the pin? i know theres a wire behind the cluster cause ive found it and it has no pulse. thats why im thinking my coil pak is missing the tacho feed pin. other wise something shouldve happened. its the only brown wire with a red stipe on the car!

If that is number 6 then yes that is it. If it is not working there could be something wrong with your tacho or possibly wiring. Just pulled my cluster out and it is the brown with the red stripe located (looking at it as it is in your car)at the top right hand side of the plug. Also if you did not know(you probably do but i am just making sure) Plug 1 is the left most plug when you pull your cluster out. I would be trying the tacho in a mates car if at all possible just to rule it out as a possibility.
@ Nodg I am not nit picking or anything but the plugs are 12 pin plugs but most of the wiring is not used.
