Hello poeple Im new to this forums and i just stumbled accross this site buy fluke..
Anyway i drive a V6 VN BT1 as a daily driver while my Torana SS is being restored. Altho the VN does go real well I wonder if the rev limmitter can be removed from the ECU. I beleive if this is posible the car would go alot harder and strech the gears much better.
Cheers John

| it might possibly be done, but would you want to remove the limiter? if you remove it and go past it, the engine would most likely blow up or something as it wasn't designed to handle 5500/6000 rpm speeds + i think the VN goes pretty hard for the engine i have no troubles with it |

If the engine is in good nick there shouldn't be a need to bypass the rev limiter. I'm not even sure if it's possible with the stock ECU. That said, one time my accelerator got pinned to the floor, the needle bounced off the end of the tacho. Didn't sound pretty, but it's possible to cross the redline.

| 8500!!! That thing would have been screaming its lungs out! Surely that wasn't with stock internals was it? I mean...I know the engine is tough, but that's amazing. |

| Must have been so tightly balanced otherwise it would have just shat itself. I'm thinking that the valve springs must have been done at some point, stock ones wouldn't handle 8500 too well (if at all). |

8500 is impossible on a stock or mild VN V6. it would have to be heavily modded to take it properly. as for the original question, there isn't any point reving past 5000rpm, as the V6 starts to get asthmatic after that. i have seen 2 tenths difference on the strip shifting at 5000, rather than 5500. unless you get a new cam, heads, exhaust system etc then removing the limiter is pointless, not to mention a pain in the ass job. |
Take it easy, if its easy take it! |

Not too fussed about the motors life span, I want to run a small cam that makes power up to 6krpm and a small prt job. But i might just 5ltr it in the end, getting abit sick of the V6, time to upgrade but i dont wana change cars im happy with it in all other aspects..

Then if you don't give a rats arse about the lifespan of the engine, just run NOS. It'll make it go better than any V8 ever could, only problem is that it's going to last about 50km (if that).
If you're going to go to a V8 make it a bit of a project car, build up the engine nicely, port/polish, blueprint the block, cam, roller-rockers. Maybe even forced induction. That should keep you happy for a while. |

| If you want top hi perforance parts try Larry Perkins web site. He does most of the formula holdens and sells to the public. With these parts you should just over 8500rpm. |
