It was a job I was dreading doing myself, until the mechanic that I asked to fit the steering rack boots to fixed it as a complimentary job. I had always thought it necessary to take out the centre console to get at it. Not so, he says.Unzip the boot around the lever,and firstly clean around it with compressed air. Then it's possible to "adjust"the switch by gently bending ths contacts to close the gap between "fully released" and "slightly engaged." Ordinarily when the lever is to the floor, whe handbrake warning light is on. Raise it one or two teeth on the ratchet and it goes out
