***HELP PLEASE!!! - Need some conformation and / or advise on dialling / degreeing in my cam...***
Hey everyone! I'm new to posting stuff on forums (as I had no idea how to..!?!) but I think I'll be needing to do a lot of it in the weeks to come as I've finally got my arse back into gear to start re-building my motor for my VN SS and I know I will probably be needing all your help and advise along the way!!!
Anyways, as the pictures show, I have fitted a Rollmaster Multi Keyway Double Row Timing Chain. From the help of a "friend", we (he...) dialled in the Crow Cam using two gauges (one in mm on the inlet valve, the other in thou on the piston...). On the spec sheet, it said to set it at .044" (1.1mm) on the inlet lobe lift at TDC on overlap. Also, as you can see, he set the key on the multi keyway sprocket to -6 deg retarded. The question I have for you all is - DOES THIS SOUND & LOOK RIGHT TO YOU GUYS WITH WHAT I HAVE JUST SAID??? I'm just worried as this "friend" has been good with motors in the past but these days, lets just say he is not all with it sadly...
Another question I need to ask (as I just can't seem to find the right answer that I'm looking for on the web...), Advanced & Retarded Timing - Which is better for Low to Mid range power??? And, with the way my cam has been set up at the moment, in what range do you all reckon it will be..??
I will appreciate any of your thoughts and recommendations with helping me re-build one mother of a VN SS engine...!!! Will also put up all my specs, upgrades (so far...) & planned add on's in the near future...
Cheers,
Damien.

Gday buddy and welcome to the club!! Your pics have not worked unfortunately buddy. |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

Hi VNGRPA,
I've tried tinypic.com and I'm still not having any luck unfortunately... :-( The pic's have gone down in size to about 10KB each but I am still getting the below message when I try to upload them:
"Error! File did not upload to system please contact the system administrator"
I'm bloody hopeless on computers when it comes to doing this sort of stuff so that doesn't help!!! ;-) And even if I can get these ones up, I don't think they'll be big enough to read the fine details of what I need you guys to see of what I am talking about..??
Any other ideas please peoples..?? Thanks again.
Cheers,
Damien. |

Hey guys. Sorry for the late reply back with all your help on this one as I have just been really busy... :-( Anyways, just letting you all know that I ended up taking the block down to an engine re-builder and getting them to re-do it. Cost me a 100 bucks but it's now a peace of mind knowing that it is now done properly! :-)
Have again started this weekend on it and now have put the heads and rockers on!!! But, I did come into a problem with one of the head bolts and will have to find a decent second hand re-placement from somewhere... Can't torque in the rockers or put the inlet manifold on till I find one... :-(
Thanks again and I'm sure I'll need your help again soon..!! :-) :-) |
