Hi to all,
I have a series 2 VN from 9/1991 (The last factory fitted engine revision in a VN, as the workshop manual says anyway.) If I am looking to have a changeover engine fitted:

A: What engines are a straight bolt-in option for this vehicle?
VP, VR? Or just stick with the same model engine?
(No ECU, gearbox changes etc.)

B: Should I be able to pick up a reasonable 2nd hand runner for around $500 fitted?
(they are as common as boat anchors in SA)

Any thoughts or recommendations anyone?

Cheers, Ben.

I don't want extra power, options or installation issues, just a changeover engine that does the job.

Hi , simple change over would be S2 VN or S1 VP , not sure about S2 VP could also be easy.

The VR motor and box need to be fitted together , and some of the electronic gear to go with it.

Just a thought for ease of fitment.

Wreckers will have a boat load of engine's and if you find a good one $500 - $1000 could cover it

if you have space , pickup a pranged rear ended car with good motor for the same cash and heaps of parts.

Cheers Mate.

Series 2 VN through to the end of the VP will go in no dramas. VR has a different ecm as it has an integrated security system but I believe engine is identical (not 100% on that though)

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.
