Hey all 
I have a HSV SV3800 with a series 1 engine. I've owned it for over 6 months now and I would like to add a few modifications on it. First would be a cold air intake.
What are a few good ones around? I was thinking K&N.
Where would be a good place to mount it? I was thinking to have the mouth for the intake sitting behind section in between the lights. But the fan shield and radiator is currently blocking it.
Some helpful opinions would be amazing

| SC V6 CAI from holden. even ebay. best place to mount is on top of radiator. then u just mod ur air box which is very simple and if u have the money a K&N panel filter is a very good idea. Dont waste ur money on the expensive ones.. 60 bucks is about right. no more than 100. Panel filter is between 80 and 130 depends where u get it. |

Yeah I was thinking of mounting it there... except the fan shield in mine comes all the way to the top. And from what I can see there is no possible way of mounting it there.
I'll probably just remove it and get a smaller one to make it happen.

stuff standard cai's, they are no substitute to a pod filter.
cut a hole in the bottom of your airbox throught the guard then mount a pod up behind your front bar, use quality intake piping
this how mine is and the police have no idea
perfect aswell more cold air=more power =))

| the problem with the way you got yours set up HOT38r is you tend to get the pod filled up with sh1t realy quik! there are so many ways to mount a pod , or better yet a cai to a air box running a pod with a oversize T/B, thats in imo! |

I heard just replacing the original air filter with a K&N panel filter, and opening the hole in the airbox more is sufficient enough. The guy checked it with appropriate air measuring devices etc. Might just do that for now until I do further engine mods.
Otherwise a CAI with a pod would rock :D |

its not legal m8! this is what I"m trying to stress !! once you start cutting into the body of the car you are comprimising saftey and legality! Also another point is if you have insurance and you have a prang forget about getting covered as the mods or mod aint legal! But hey I'm a stickler for rules lmfao  |

There's numerous options out there- the most budget conscious would be the VS CAI with a K&N panel filter. No problems with legality and in total you are probably looking at about $150. You can heat the mouth up and use a door stop or other tapered piece of wood to open it up a little more than standard aswell. But the best part is, it just bolts straight up- seriously you are looking at a 10 minute job.
There is also the SS inductions kit but it's big dollars compared to the VS item.
You could use a pod correctly heat shielded or run the pod naked but in some states it's illegal and you'll lose a lot of the power gain to the fact you are sucking in hot air.
Just remember that if if you go cutting holes in things you are probably going to create more dramas than it is worth. Having your car defected is one problem, having your insurance claim rejected because you've illegally cut stuff is going to hurt a whole lot more. |

There was a 200sx that got around Adelaide a couple of years ago with a perspex bonnet- it was a hardcore show car but still driven.
Amazingly off topic now though. |

Yeah perspex bonnets are pretty insane. That reminds me I need a new bonnet... mine weighs a tonne.
I'm going to fit the pod and design a custom housing plus CAI. My mate can make stuff out of metal. So I'll see how an aluminum one or something goes . |

make sure you you put some pickle on the ali ( some sulphuric acip paste) this will stop it corroding! I use it on all my ali and stainless work! |

Cutting into the original body work is illegal. Cheak out how this guy did his Im thinking of doing something similar. I also have a write up in a magazine that shows that the an after market I think they used K & N in there test against a K&N pod and an el cheapo pod filter. The after market panel filter gave the best power gains
