Hi,
I purchased an 89 Commodore, 5spd S1 engine. Do the ac systems have a safety mechanism to stop the system from engaging if there is no gas left?
Thanks,
James

| Mine still worked when it was out of gas, was just extremely hot. I just made it easy and removed the whole system. |

| The reason I ask this, when I press the AC button, nothing happens. The engine idle doesnt change, I cant hear the system kick in. Last time I had a car where it didnt work, it cos 900 bucks to fix! |

There are seven separate switches that need to be closed for the system to kick in. If any one of those switches is open, the system will not fire.
Check the fuses and relays, that's the easy spot to start. After that, you'll need to get a bit more intimate with the wiring loom associated with the aircon. There's a few other threads on this around the place, do a search of the forum for them, I think someone even posted a picture of the wiring loom for the a/c system. |
