I could be up for some parts too when the time comes.
As for pulling the dash apart, it's a prick of a job, really. Especially if you want to get the dash back into the car.
If you just want to yank it out, start by taking off as many of the dash panels as you can (the airvents, the center binnacle, the footwell flaps...) then see what screws are visible. I know that there's some along the base of the windscreen that need to be removed...
Oh screw it...here's the instructions from the Gregory's manual:
1. Disconnect the neagative battery terminal 2. Remove the center console (the bit with the gear lever and handbrake) 3. Remove the steering column 4. Remove the radio 5. Remove the insrument cluster (you need to remove the cluster surround, then the cluster) 6. Open the glove box, and remove the hinge pin on the left hand side, remove the lid 7. From under the dash, remove the screws and fasteners securing the lower trim panel and remove. 8. Using a small screwdriver, prise the plastic strip from the front section of the left hand side sill panel cover 9. disengage the front section of the sill panel cover from the kick panel and the sill 10. Disengage the lower front corner of the kick panel from the locating stud and remove 11. Disconnect the dashboard wiring 12. Remove the screw retaining the centre fascia panel to the dashboard and remove the panel from the vehicle 13. Remove the screws retaining the dashboard end covers and remove 14. Remove the retaining screws from the side vent housings and remove 15. Remove the retaining screws from the speaker grilles and remove 16. Remove the demister grille retaining screws and remove 17. Remove the speaker retaining screws and remove the speakers 18. Disconnect the heater ducts from the apertures in the outer ends of the dashboard. 19. Remove the dashboard mounting bolts from the outer ends of the dashboard 20. Remove the retaining screw and bolt from the lower center dashboard at the heater assembly 21. Fully recline both front seats 22. With the aid of an assitant, remove the remaining mounting screws adjacent to the windscreen demister ducting 23. Carefully swing the passenger side of the dashboard away from the bulkhead and support it on the drivers seat. 24. Separate the wiring from the dashboard, noting the installed position of the connectors and the wiring retainers 25. Remove the dashboard from the vehicle and place it on a clean dry surface.
There you go...it's a prick of a job.
If you plan on owning another VN, get yourself a copy of the Gregory's manual, there's a whole lot of pictures that go with the dashboard removal, that I'm not going to post. Best of luck with it. |
