Welcome to the club, nice to see someone from up north joining in on things.
Fuel pumps are notoriously bad on VN's, quite a lot of people on this site have had to change one at some point. They do just tend to pack up and die sometimes, however typically when they die, they stay dead, so it sounds like something a bit more sinister at work here.
Firstly: do you have an immobiliser fitted to the car?
The reason I ask this is because once upon a time mine started to play up and, thanks to a dodgy connection, would kill the engine while I was driving (okay, so it was killing the fuel pump, but you know the result). It took the best part of two weeks to work out just where the busted connection was. Check all of the connections you can find to your immobiliser, especially the ones in the engine bay.
If you don't have an imobiliser you can ignore all that
Check all the wiring to the fuel pump, starting at the fuse/relay bank in the engine bay and work your way to the fuel pump. If any connection looks even half dodgy, re-do it.
Also, while you're in the business of checking electrical connections, check the earth connection to the battery (negative lead).
If after all of that it doesn't work, get back to us and we'll see what else I/we can come up with. |

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

While it sounds like mouce is proberbly right im just going to throw somting into the mix cause i was having a simular problem. Try resetting ur ECU. may sound silly but there maybe a chance that theere is too much fuel compared to air getting into the engine which causes it too flood hence the fuel pump stops working, u kinda get the pic. i did it with mine when i was having trouble starting it and it was stalling and worse of all the petrol gauge dropped really quickly....
this is however a stab in the dark and is prob not right but hey it will take 30 seconds and may save afew headaches. Just like in the VN it is normally something really simple. |

If the engine is flooding and cutting out due to excess fuel, check the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator, check the condition of the oxygen sensor and check for any sticking injectors.

lmao who has actualy done this (flooded there vn)????how can it be possible???besides the obvious, anyways i agree with mouce have a searcharound the connections,,, just a thought , what about the fuel relay?? Also this might sound a bit nuts but have a look at the fuel filter, as we had another member (joogie if I remember) have roughly the same problem... it turned out the fuel filter was jammed with sh1t.. and that was a week after he changed the first 1! Another thing that came to mind was your air filter,, a air blockage or vacum leak will cause all sorts of crazy things to happen as well! |
