Some guy I know said a full VN bodykit can be bought off ebay for around $300... I have yet to find one.
Anyone know of any place in Victoria that sells bodykits for that cheap?
Same goes for altezza lights, any place in Vic that sells them? I can only ever find them on ebay...

A full VN kit for $300. Maybe if it was made out of cardboard! Seriously it depends what you are looking for, you wouldn't find ANYTHING from a GroupA kit, but you 'might' be able to pick up a front and/or rear bumper from some strange kind of aftermarket P.O.S. kit. If you want it to look good, save up a few extra dollars.
As for the Altezza style lights, I've never seen any TRUE Altezza style lights for the VN, there are ones with supposedly 'clear' lenses however unless you have some sort of red reflective surface on the rear of the vehicle, they are illegal to use on Victorian roads. For the record that's how most Mazdas get away with using Altezza lights, they have red reflectors on the rear bumper.
Station wagons can use them, because there are reflectors built into the bumper, sedans can't unless you feel like sticking on a few reflectors. |

I dont think the red reflector is the only thing that needs to be considered with the clear tail lights, unless its different here in NSW.
I was told that the tail lights must be ADR approved, and that costs a lot of money, the companys dont expect too many people to be buying clear tail lights for the old VN, and they dont expect to make up the cost of testing so they did not get them tested/stamped. A bit of a catch 22.... as less people will buy them if they are not legal. |

True, the ADR approval is important, but I don't know anyone who has ever had any problems with them with that side of it. That's true for all states that I know of.
Most of the time, it's the red reflector that they will screw you for. |

| I'm not going to bother with ADR approval (whoever they are). If they ask me whether I got ADR approval, I'll just say I didn't know we required it. It's not like we were ever informed about such things. They can't just expect everyone to read the law whenever buying some new part for their car. I'll be adding red reflectors though, I reckon two red reflectors on the rear bumper would make it look even better anyway... Thanks for the info guys. |

YOU do not need to get ADR approval, that is something that the manufacturer needs to take care of before allowing the use of the product on Australian Roads.
Unfortunately for you, ignorance is not an acceptable defense. If you get a 'friendly' cop you'll get a warning, if you get a hell-cop, you'll cop a canary. More to the point, if you DO get fined for it, you won't get a whole lot of sympathy. You've been warned about it, now it's up to you. |

How can it be ignorance if we were never informed about the law? Then they may as well make up a few new laws everyday and fine us for them.
And why do they allow illegal tail lights to be sold on eBay? |

Uh...grab a dictionary and look up ignorance. It IS ignorance of the law if you have never been informed.
That said, it is assumed that if you know enough about cars to start modifying them you know that there are laws that you need to conform to. Or if you don't know enough to do it yourself, you will take it to a workshop to get it done. And, by law, no workshop is allowed to let you drive away in a car that does not conform to RWC standards.
And the reason that the lights can be legally sold on e-bay and even in stores, is because it's not illegal to own them, and they are not illegal for use on private property. Same deal with undercar neons, they can legally be sold, because possession is not a crime, use on public land is. |

Ignorance - "the lack of knowledge or education". LOL!
