Hi,
Its been happening for at least the last 2 years, it smells of petrol inside the car. I've taken it to a mechanic, he said he tightened up some pipes, it made no difference.

I think its just when the fan is on. I'm used to now, it doesnt bother me that much. But friends remind me when they get in the car.

I also blame the constant petrol sniffing for my extreemely short memory and attention span.

Anyone else come across the problem, or know how to fix it.

Thanks, Matt

The obvious place to start would be check your fuel lines. Start at the tank and work your way to the engine. Check every bend, every joint, the whole thing.

Next I'd start looking at the exhaust. This time starting at the engine, and working your way back to the tip. Since it's smelling like petrol, I'd be inclined to say that any split would be on the engine side of the cat. Also...check out all the sensors in the engine bay, if it's running really rich, you'll have a bit of a smell. Also...check all the hoses (like the PCV hose, all the vac hoses...).

Try running the fan on full recirculate (dial all the way clockwise), and see if you can still smell it, if you can then it might pay to get friendly with your dash and start cleaning out your airvents.

look at ur fuel filter to start with then if thats not the problem drop the fuel tank only a few bolts not hard just make sure u dont have 60 lts in it tho.

if nothing there start from tank look at the front off the rear right hand wheel the pipe always corrodes then go up to the engine bay and look for split hoses if thats not it check ur fuel reg if that dont fix it well put up with the smell
