First up, try some punctuation...I normally don't get too grumpy about it, but three lines and not even so much as a full-stop! Had to read it three times to work out what you're on about.

The 'ticking' that you feel from the fuel regulator probably isn't coming from the regulator itself, my guess is that it's just the ticking from the injectors being transmitted to the fuel regulator by the fuel rails.

If you're concerned about the amount of fuel getting in though, first up check that the fuel filter is not blocked. Most people forget to change their fuel filter because it's tucked away out of sight. If you haven't changed it in the last 40,000km, then do it now.

The servicing question is a good one (I assume that's what the last line is about): allowing for the fact that these are now 16-18 year old cars, I'd say don't bother taking them back to Holden for each service. So long as you have a reasonable tool kit, there's nothing in the standard service you can't do yourself. If you have a really good tool kit (and a few of us here do) there's nothing to stop you rebuilding your engine.

All that said, being an auto, I'd be inclined to say that you get the auto tranmission serviced by a good quality automatic transmission specialist. How often you get it done depends on the type of driving you do, if you tow heavy trailers then get it serviced once a year, if you just punt around town then get the transmission serviced when you notice the gear changes aren't behaving properly. Don't forget to change the fluid though.

A common problem for the car to feel like it has no power on take-off could be plugs/leads/coil-pack. If you've dropped a cylinder it's still going to run, but it's going to feel a bit sluggish.

Cheers mate, just makes it easier to read, the easier it is to read the more likely you are to have people help you.

I'm still going to suggest that you test the coil pack. Visually you just about can't tell if it's working or dead (unless it's physically melted). A quick and easy test is to go for a short drive (5 minutes) then open the bonnet and feel each of the coil packs. If one is much hotter than the others then you can just about bet that it's dead.

There's a whole way to test it with a DMM but it's a bit of stuffing around. Have you noticed your fuel usage getting worse lately?

I'm assuming nothing and without the ability to put my head under your car, so dont take offence to anything i say but, is the fuel filter on the right way around? It does make a difference. Should be an arrow on the filter showing the flow direction.

How clean is the aitr filter?

The leads on the right plugs?

Might want to check the resistance to your injectors. Have the injectors every been serviced? How old are they?
