I know plenty of wreckers down here in Melbourne, but that's not much help to you up in QLD. Where abouts in QLD are you?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if the chassis is bent, then the car is no longer street legal. Bending the chassis is deemed to compromise the structural integrity of the vehicles frame, most insurance companies view it as a write off, and I don't know of ANY legitimate RWC tester that will pass it.
Bending the sill on the side of the car, that's not such a huge issue, a hammer fixes that one up, if you've bent the chassis...that's gunna suck. |

Nope...I've found the best way is to get the trauma over and done with, before any money gets spent on it.
If any of the following have been damaged the car is going to be deemed a write-off by any insurance company (not that you'd claim THIS on insurance, but in the future they can, and probably would, refuse to pay out on a claim because it's unroadworthy): A-pillar B-pillar C-pillar D-pillar chassis cabin floorpan
If any of the following have been damaged it's going to need to be fixed professionally with an engineers certificate: Front suspension tower mount, rear suspension shock absorber mount (to body) rear diff mount to chassis pan-hard rod mount to chassis boot floor pan
The rear parcel shelf may fall into either category, depending on how badly it's been damaged
If the only damage is a slightly crushed side skirt then it's no big deal, however from what you're saying you smacked it fairly hard if the diff has moved or the rim has been warped. And ifyou have smacked the rear wheel into the gutter that hard, it would pay to replace the insides of the diff, as they will have been given one hell of a wallop, to be honest you're lucky you could drive it.
You know what makes this really painful for me to hear about? The fact that you love your car. I'd be shattered if something like that happened to me, and by the sounds of it you are too. If you were a tool who didn't give a sh!t about the car then I wouldn't be feeling sorry for you at all. But this really sucks hard... |

| mate as I said how far under and you said 18mm and the pilla 10mm!right!now if it didnt penetrate the the jac point (you know the little lip thingy!)you should be right 18 mm sounds like fu#$ all but with out c...ing the thing I realy cant say or judge!!!it's called the domino effect, 18mm can cause the slightest bend stess to across the impact point there 4 rendering it fu#$ ed the only reason I say this is cause I am a sheetie/bodybuilder/welder and have seen this many time (more on trucks ect..) but make note that this can happen and as I said I wasnt in the car wen it hit and I can c the damage so that is the reason 4 me 2 say write off !!!! and on a good note $650 cheap as chips does that include the spray work???? oh yeah all said with a smile!!!! |

Actually 18mm ding in the side skirt of the car isn't an issue, it's got to sink between 10-20cm before it causes head-aches.
Glad to know that it's going to get repaired though, always nice to know that a VN has been saved from the junk yard.
And for all that I don't need to say it, I'm going to anyway, take it easy in the wet next time ;) |

| the only reason I brought that up is the fact that even the smallest ding in the right spot (ridgid corner ect..)will cause a stress at the other end of the scale so to speak !!This is proven as I 'v seen it with my own eyes!!!and no it dosent haf 2 b a big hit but it can happen!!(Idont recomend testing this on your car)!! |

Okay, I won't test it with my car, we'll use your's trizo...LOL.
I know what you're saying though, but thankfully in this case it doesn't sound like it was a 'fatal' hit. |
