Believe it or not they are actually a different box.
The VN ran the THM700, whereas the VP ran the TH700R4.
The ratios are the same, so long as the physical dimensions of the box are the same, I can't see any reason why it shouldn't fit.
You may need to be careful though, I know there were a few differences with the flywheel between the S1 and the S2. The S2 motor is essentially the same as the one in the VP, so if you've got a S2 then you're in good shape, if you've got an S2 I'd try to track someone down who has already attempted it.
Also make sure the drive shaft is the right length.
What makes you think that you've cooked the box? Is it not changing properly, is it not engaging gears at all? Might not be the box that's your problem. |

| There was a change to an electronically controlled box for the VR, that much is true. The VP used a slightly different box to the VN but it was still mechanically controlled. |

| Yeah, the VR box will mate up to a VP motor, but you'd need to change so much of the loom it wouldn't be worth it in my opinion. |
