Yup...do it! Even 'street commos' says that it is a crazy cheap mod for a series 1 motor. Have you noticed that pretty much all series 1 coilpacks buggered up on everybody at some point? Thats why holden changed it on the VP onwards. Something to do with a better spark or something(better spark, better combustion, etc...). Theyre really easy to change as well. Basically screw the bolts out, put the new pack in and bolt it back up.

Ive got the 'street commos' somewhere but its midnight right now so ill post it 2mos 4 ya.

I put little 'post-its' on things in street coommos that might be important(things like this).

Actually in terms of a 'performance' mod, it isn't. But if the S1 pack has died, it's a very good move because instead of being one module with 6 leads out of it, there are three separate modules with two leads each. That way if in the future you drop a cylinder or two, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to replace just one module than the whole lot.

As for the S2 motor being better than the S1 motor. That's a hard call to make. The thermostat is in a better place (front of the engine) and there is a plastic bellmouth to help improve the quality of the idle in the S2, but the S1 has the peak of its torque curve lower in the rev range, and will typically launch harder than the S2 engine off the line.

In short the coil pack mod is worth doing, but only once the S1 pack has died.

Be careful with the MSD coils, they tend to die quicker than the GMH coil packs. Don't know why, but a lot of people have found that they just throw in the towel a bit sooner.

The only reason to keep using the S1 coil pack is because if it ain't broke don't fix it. As soon as it dies change to the S2 coil pack by all means, but there's no performance gain to be had from spending the money to change it over, so save your pennies for now.
