Hey guys,
Just wondering what is everyones opinion on the fuel injector cleaner additives and stuff like that? Are they worth the money and do they actually work? Anyone tried Slick 50 in particular, is is worth the $27.50 they want for it? Ideas and opinions appreciated!

The only injector cleaner I've used is the Wynns one. But that was back when I was running ULP fuel. I used to run a bottle through every 6 months or so...it seemed like it made a difference. Never checked the spray patterns of the injectors before/after, but it felt a bit better, idle improved, fuel consumption dropped a tad...
Now though, I run on PULP all the time, and the injector cleaner makes no difference anymore so I stopped using it. Either the fuel is doing a good enough job, or my injectors are too shagged for the cleaner to fix them.

| Good way to clean your t/b is with a good dose of Carby cleaner. The injector cleaner would probably work fairly well too, hell...I've heard that a can of coke can be used to clean the t/b (had a mate who did it)...just depends what you've got kicking around I suppose. |

| yeh i throw a bottle in every 5 weeks or so (when i rember) it seems to make it idle a little better and accelerate smoother, that said there are some tha i think that are total rubish ie: noisy tappet stopper, engine pinging remover and others like that cos if your engine is making those noises theres nothing that you can put in you fuel that will make that better. |

| Sweet...always need someone who is prepared to test stuff. Look forward to hearing if it's actually worth the money or not. |

Never heard that one, but then again, depending on the solvent that goes through it I guess it COULD be possible, but I wouldn't think that it would be that bad.
Then again, injectors are designed to inject fuel, not fuel plus additives (take note of that all you ethanol junkies!). So I guess by asking them to push through the 'cleaner' laced fuel it may cause problems, but I don't see why. I mean petrol itself is a fairly hardcore solvent, and they stand up to that okay.
Hell...the BEST way to clean injectors is to actually ultrasonically clean them while they are 'open'. The next best way is to 'open' them and run straight injector cleaner through them. So it can't be too bad. |
