Jumped in my car thismorning to move it so the rest of the family could leave. Key went in, waited for the fuel pump to click off, turned the key and then crunch, grind, stall.
To be a bit more helpful, it sounded exactly like it does when you miss a gear and it bounces off the synchro rings in the gearbox. Only trick is...I always start the car with the clutch in, so I don't think it could have been a gearbox issue.
Turned everything off, popped the bonnet (nothing obvious under there), jumped back in, started the car and had no problems.
I'm thinking maybe a starter motor or a loose flywheel...anyone ever come across this before? Anyone got ANY ideas on it...I don't want to drop the gearbox out just for the hell of it.
Cheers, Mouce

Yeah...I'm starting to think that it's just a bit of a strange once-off. Judging by how the clutch is behaving though...I'm going to check out the flywheel...
Is there any easy way to see if it's loose without dropping the gearbox out? Or is that my only option? |

| Sounds like the clutch. From memory while i was doin engine reco u have 2 drop the box 2 gain access 2 any part of the flywheel. I no auto u got an inspection plate where u undo bolts from torque convertor. But this only allows u 2 look at the teeth as u spin it. But 2 view the entire flywheel and check everythin id say yeh the box would have 2 come out. Ill ask my dad tmrw and c if he ever had anythin like that come thru. Prob wouldnt let it go 2 long tho cause whats usually a 1nce off thing turns in2 a regular problem. |

| Don't worry...as soon as it happens again I'm going to have the gear box out faster than anyone has ever done it before. When it comes to strange noises with my car I let it do anything once, if I can't see anything obvious, I wait for it to happen again...then I get out the tools. |

If you get the chance can you ask the old man? I've got no solid idea of what the hell happened, and I'm trying to save up for a new suspension and a sound system and some new rims/tyres and...you get the idea.
If you know anyone that might have an idea, please ask them...I'd be interested to know what people think it might have been.
Cheers for the help/. |

| omg, thats exactly what happened to me 3 weeks ago, then a week later, my car broke down for no reason, though, im not too sure if that had anything to do with the crank grind stall part??!? |
