| VN's official weight is about 1320kg. That's the poverty pack V6. That's one reason it's so damn fast, there's nothing to it. The VT is heavier. |

VN's are large...I'll give you that. For their size, they aren't too heavy for something with is essentially a 'family' sedan (must remember they were never designed as sports cars). As for powerful...the amount of power coming from the Buick derived V6 motor in it isn't huge (not for a motor that size), but the torque curve is astoundingly flat...something like 80-90% of the torque is available at about 1600rpm or thereabouts. So they pull really hard.
However when you compare it to something pathetic like the toyota yaris...the VN is an absolute whale of a car. But then again...if I was going to be in an accident...I'd rather be in my VN than in the yaris...saw a yaris hit the side of a bus the other day. LOL...panels just popped off everywhere...low speed impact and the car is a write-off? All the VN would have needed would be a new front bumper and a bonnet. |

| also there are small car people and big car people...nott only would it be uncomfortable for people our size to drive a small deathbox, it would also be uncomfortable for our egos and also testosterone levels would be affected by a small 1.8 toyota THING...badly |

I'm man enough to not NEED to compensate for anything by driving a big car :)
I just like the extra room that I get with it. Trying to carry three or four mates in an Excel is a really fuc&ing uncomfortable experience, dropping three or four people into a VN? No problems. |

The main reason I got the VN, was because...it's a Holden. Simple as that. I wasn't earning enough at the time to justify the V8 (though I would have loved one), so I found a nice poverty pack VN and made it mine.
Actually...it had been sitting on someone's nature stip, less than 1k from my house for about three months with a little '4-sale' sign on it, and being a VN, I looked at it and thought "it's gotta be another auto, I'm not even going to bother". Wasn't on gas either, so I figured auto/petrol? Nah! Walking home from the shops one day (and desperate for a car of my own) I stopped and had a look. Almost passed out...it was a manual and not on gas either...so I was stoked. Price was a bit high but I was happy to pay it. Got the keys two weeks later :)
Took the poor guy two weeks to get the roady done on it, ended up being $2000 work done on it. So I was quite happy about that...didn't feel so bad paying out $4500 for it then.
I did have my heart set on a ute, and one day I'll get one, but I'm more than happy with my VN sedan.
Going back to the original question: Depends which spec level you look at...the Calais is heavier than the exec, and the SS is heavier than both (I think), just because of the extra gear that they each get. So looking at exec vs exec...the VN is fairly light by comparison. |
