Well after selling my Ford wagon to get a Vn wagon, it seems my Vn wants to be a Ford as well. A few months ago, it started to make the same screeching noise ya hear Fords make when trying to start...anyw ay got progressively worse till hubby changed starter motors(from a wreckers but was tested). Came good for a few days then same again but much faster deterioration till a few days ago when it absolutely refused to start...just continual screeching when turning key.Was told the flywheel may have chipped teeth and is chewing out starter motor teeth but hubby thinks maybe the solenoid on it. Any ideas most welcome. BTW was hardest to start in the morning when cold but ok during day(still could hear a ratchetty noise when cranking)
thanks

If it were the solenoid I'd be inclined to say that it would either not engage at all, or would never dis-engage. I'd be leaning towards the flywheel having a few issues, or maybe the drive gear on the starter.

As for the difference in starting with change in temperature...I've got no idea what could be doing that...unless it is one of the connections to the starter motor, when it's warm it would expand a little and make a better connection maybe. I'm still going with the flywheel though.

the fly wheel is made out of a less dence softer metal then the gears on ur starter motor to stop such problems occuring. i would almost gaurentee that the problem would be resolved if u change the fly wheel
