Normally you need to get a heat gun and soften the edges of the CAI and slam the bonnet onto it so that it 're-moulds' it slightly. You did get the CAI from the VS supercharged V6 didn't you?
BTW: If it's still there, don't forget to remove the black rubber strip attached to the underside of the front of the bonnet, otherwise your nice new CAI won't be able to breathe. |

Why won't it close properly? As I said, just heat the edges and slightly re mould the CAI so that it's a bit thinner.
Another alternative is to lower the radiator a little. |

Hey Guys
How will the CAI mod combined with a performance filter effect fuel consumption, as I read on another forum that a few of the blokes had a fuel consumption increase, which does not make sense.

| You will get a fuel consumption increase if you drive it harder. Because these are 'performance' mods most of the time people expect their car to go harder so they drive it harder. If you put them in and can still drive it as you normally would, the fuel figures should drop a little. |

| Ahh...okay...See those little black knobs (two or three of them made out of rubber)? Try screwing those into the bonnet a little further. This might also make the bonnet a little easier to open too. |

Hey Guys
Finally got around to fitting a VS S/C CAI to my VN wagon, took me about an hour (no jokes) and all I had to do to get the bonnet to close, was screw out the bonnet latch pin about 2 turns, also fitted a performance filter and cleaned the throttle body, and can definitely feel the difference, car runs smoother, starts easier and the exhaust burns cleaner. Great results from a relatively cheap mod.
CAI complete with clips - $56.00 uni filter - $69.00 can carb cleaner - $ 3.00 ---------- Total $128.00
time taken app 2.5 hrs
cheers Nobby

| Yeah I tried but the fuc&er wont budge... after closer examination I found that the windscreen end of the bnnet is screwed down too tight (sits lower than the side panels) and also the bonnet is a little crooked ie: big gap between the bonnet and panel on the front drivers side and virtually no gap on the front passenger side... any suggestions |

You've got to be careful when adjusting the bonnet latch pin, making it longer makes the bonnet sit up higher at the front, this puts a lot more stress on the locking mechanism when you're actually driving. I know of more than one VN that has had the bonnet flip up at cruising speed after 'adjusting' the bonnet latch pin. I'm not saying that it shouldn't be done. But do it half a turn at a time, 3-4 turns at once is asking for trouble.
@lolo: Taken from Gregory's:
1) To align the bonnet fore and aft, loosen the bonnet hinge mounting bolts sufficiently to allow the bonnet to be moved. 2) To align the height of the rear of the bonnet, loosen the bonnet bracket mounting bolts sufficiently to allow the bonnet to be moved. 3) To align the height of the front of the bonnet, loosen or tighten the lock bolt. Lock bolt nominal length is 52mm from the bonnet to the lock bolt shoulder.
As for adjusting side to side...I don't know about that one...mine is a little off but not enough to worry about. When you are adjusting the hinges on the back of the bonnet be careful to not remove the bolts entirely, otherwise the bonnet will fall and crack the windscreen. It's always handy to have an extra set of hands around to help out with the bonnet adjustments too. |
