Has anyone tried converting the 3.8 V6 to LPG, and how well did it go afterwards?

A lot of people have them running on gas. Most of them run rather well too as long as you get it tuned on gas.
That said, I'd never do it. LPG is harder on valve seats (it's a very dry fuel), it burns a lot hotter than unleaded (putting more strain on the cooling system), and it's an extra thing that can go wrong (it's an 18 year old car stuff's gonna go wrong anyway, why make it worse?).
One of my mates converted his wagon to gas to save money. Got it working, and the money he was saving on fuel costs he had to put into repairs to keep it running on gas.
Some people actually have dyno results to show that they get better power on gas than petrol, and I can understand how too...but even still...I wouldn't do it to mine. |

actually gas has a higher octane rating than petrol. so in theory it would run better as long as you have the right setup. comp ratios etc etc. running a custom oil injection setup like the rotary engines do, will increase engine life aswell.
petrol in canberra is nigh on $1.50 a litre. |

Gas doesn't have to be less power. Done properly it's quite easy to see up to 5kw gains from running gas. As the gas changes from liquid to gas it cools the intake charge, so in a way it almost acts as an intercooler. And as mentioned before, gas has a higher octane rating (114RON) than standard unleaded (92RON). |

| I don't know about doing second hand setups, but as far as I know the price for a new conversion professionally is somewhere about $1500. To give you some idea, if you're doing 25000km in a year it will take you 5 years to make that money back (according to the RACV). That's why I'm not going to convert. |
