i know this has been covered before on so many forums it's not funny, but id thought id throw it out to other members who i know have got a good knowledge bass.

i got a vns2, and i recently did the bellmouth removal. made gaskets to fit where the old bellmouth so no air was sucking in and it all sealed quite nicely, just to make sure i ran a small layer of silocone around the throtle body-intake manifold gaskets. but the problem is i didnt realy notice any increase in power, if anything, i did notice a decrease in power. the idle didnt chage or anything, the car is a vns2 with a cai unit, supercharged injectors different memcal (custom job) shiftkitted auto, blah blah blah. so yeah, any ideas guy's or is it just that my car is possesed like i reckon it is

cheers

You're not alone there - a number of people I know that have done it have also noticed a drop in power & increase in roughness.

Holden put it in there not only to smooth out the prodigious low RPM torque, but also to even up the mixtures.
One of the keys to getting more power when blueprinting is to make sure each cylinder is an equal volume, and has equal mixture in each one. You can see where holden were heading with this now can't you!

Sometimes the increase in power is merely a placebo effect - like when someone fits a pod sucking hot air & says it goes heaps better - because the induction roar is louder.

I have a theory with the bellmouth that I haven't tried (I don't have a VN2-VR V6 to try it on) and that's to cut away some of the bellmouth - to make the opening larger, but still shroud the rear 2 cylinders to help even out the mix, while allowing greater airflow.

Might be worth a shot if you are considering putting it back.

Yeah I took mine out in my S2 VN, I noticed crappy idling and a huge decrease in power so I put it back in and everything went back to normal.

If you've got a custom memcal unit, then surely it was tuned with the bellmouth in place. Maybe a retune of the memcal unit would sort things out, just a thought. Mind you, I like the idea of cutting it down a little, see how that goes first.

mouce is on it. If you've had a custom tune they would have tuned it to suit the bellmouth in there. Once you took it out it would be getting too much air to the back and ruining your tune.
