i have a 1990 vn s pack when its cold it starts perfectly but when driven and turned off if it sits for awile it just winds over for about 2-3 mins and then blows black smoke when it starts. i have replaced the hole fule rail and no change.
gday m8 there is a few problems this could start at ! number 1 I would look at is the cas (CRANK ANGLE SENSOR) 1 of the methods that is widley used on here (thanks to nodg) is pour some cold water over the cas once the car refuses to start! 2 check the coil pack to c its not weeping any black gunk, if it is it is VERY possible the coil is dicked! It realy dont sound like a fuel problem m8!! Can I suggest you go to our how to section of the site and find the error codes, it will give you a complete run down of how 2 find the codes and what they mean !!!! Please post your findings it will give me/us a better direction to go in! P.S welcome to the site dude!
thanks i have tested the cas and it fine and the codes are clear i have had it all done by people who build drag car and they dont know what is wrong and it splutters but only some times
hey I'll just add something to this cos i got starting problems with my and when i go to turn the key t start it .it takes about 4 seconds or more before if comes to life.
it has just had a full service new EFI fuel filter etc i don't know why i won't just go straight away. it's okay after it's warm, doesn't cough ans splatter or any nonsense anyone know why it won't just go like a normal vn
I'll show you the Rick James cell. It's superfreaky!.
almost sounds as though one or more of your injectors could be dribbling(leaking) a bit. When you replaced the fuel rail did you replace injectors and fuel pressure regulator as well??
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.
hi yea i did the whole lot injectos pressur regulator and we put new rubbers on the injectors the motor we took every thing off was running fine and did not have this problem i have resently replaced the cas and still haveing the same trouble.
what ever it is sounds electricial most electronics if they have a fault play up when hot... I would be checking spark at the plugs... if the DFI module (Ignition Pack) under the coils is faulty it could be the problem... signal from CAS goes here does its magic gets altered and then on to the ECM... if the ECM senses a cranking signal higher than 400RPM it controls spark advance... otherwise the DFI gives a base spark advance angle... if this circuit is faulty no go... Something to try....
