I was reading about bellmouths on here yesterday and decided to take mine out. Just wondering if there is something you can do so all 6 cyclinders will be running on even fuel. Does resetting the ecu fix this rich/lean problem or is it unavoidable?

Definately reset the computer if you haven't already.
If the problem is still there it could be the O2 sensor is shot causing it to run either rich or lean. |

thanks for the reply - although I haven't taken it out yet A friend of mine said grab a valley and a throttle body from the wreckers and he was going to show me how to increase the flow to make her a bit touchier - while we were there i was going to take out the bellmouth. When he did it to his wagon he left the bellmouth in. Is it wise to remove it or am i going to have big problems later? Also To reset the ecu i just have to start the car and rev to 3000 for 8 seconds after disconnecting/reconnecting the battery right? Any ideas on gauging the rpm? I am unfortunately without a taco lol. Maybe i should look around for a dash with one in it while i'm at the wreckers? |

when you reset your ecm just disconect the battery for a least ten mins then let the car warm up and slowly rev it till you hear the revs drop, it will usualy reset at about 2000rpm. And the only problem with taking the bell mouth out is that it might give u a little rougher idle, I removed mine and didnt notice a thing, if you going to get another throttle body get ya hands on a v8 t/b 70mm if I remember right! That will give you better take of,run a cold air intake through to the airbox with a nice kn panel or pod filter and you notice some more power! |

Headers and exhaust for mine.
I'm doing a bit of research into injectors and although the Magna injectors are a great item )if you can pick them up from a wrecker who hasn't cottoned on that they are the same as HSV and up the price accordingly- the bastards) unless your pushing the limits of the current injectors it doesn't make sense to upgrade them. It's only what I've read on other forums and I have no experience with them myself, but going by what I've read, I'd wait and do other things. Other people may beg to differ though.
What about doing the headers, exhaust and then getting it tuned for 95ron fuel? It might be a little price-y but should have it absolutely humming.
And many people say that you don't need to hold the revs at 3000rpm after a disconnect- just normal driving for 10 minutes or so will be enough to figure it out. I've done it both ways and I'm buggered if I can spot a difference. |

Longevity maybe, looks definately (but how often will you be looking at it).
I'll be amazed if there is a performance gain. |

so no point really - one more thing - those powerchip chips look pretty good - just read thru all the stuff they sent me is it ok to install yourself or will you need a dyno tune after? |

always good to get it dyno'ed, but the ideal way is to have the chip custom made to your car and then dyno tuned! Bit pricey though

Chips are easy enough to install but the problem you might run into if it is an off the shelf chip and not a custom tune is that it might not give you much in the way of performance gains... it might even send you backwards.
Having said that, some people have reported a lot of success with off the shelf jobs but its a gamble and if your unlucky its a waste of money. If it were I, I'd get a custom chip burnt by a reputable workshop.
On that topic, nodg- one of the users here- was going to set up his own chip burning operation but I'm not sure how far along he got with it. Hopefully he'll find this thread sooner or later or you could send him a pm. If you have no luck, there are other blokes out there doing a similar thing.

Oh really? I didn't know you guys were going to give it a crack... I know Greenfoam is pretty well regarded though.
Personally the idea scares me a bit but you never know I guess. |
