Hi fellas, my car backfires when running on LPG. This happens about once a week but and Im not happy about it!!! As soon as it happens the check engine light comes on. I did a test and it showed 42 and 45 every time. Has anyone had the same problem?? By the way it only happens under slight (granny) acceleration.

that to me sounds like ya air intake , exhaust , or you have a nasty vac leak some were! code 42 is spark and code 45 is more or likely ya o2 sensor has sh1t it self from the back firing!! here is a link to the error codes m8!
Code 42 Electronic Spark Timing Circuit. Caused primarily by the CAS packing it in. Can also be caused by a faulty coil pack, or DFI module. Check all electrical connections
Code 45 Air/fuel ratio rich. Caused when the air/fuel ratio is deemed rich for more than 20 seconds. Often caused by a faulty O2 sensor. (quoted by mouce)

Hi trizo, thanks for the reply! I have replaced the oxygen sensor last week. Just a bit more info for you... I have a K&N pod filter thats a little dirty but shouldn't have any restriction. In the last 3 months I have replaced the exhaust system from the cat converter down (all stock).
So you reckon a brand new O2 sensor can fail from a couple of backfirings? You r probly right!! And also how much is CAS sensor and are they easy to replace?
Thanks for your help mate |

This problem went on an don etc etc etc ... I blew my complete exhaust when i first had done... they spent so long never curing my backfire ... REPLACE THE COIL CONTROLLER, intermittent under acceleration... would go BANG, shatter the filter housing and take about 5-10 mins b4 would restart. this is expensive part but believe me, months of hell and replacing stuff and now hasn't gone POP for 2 yrs.
better is the ignition control module under the coil pack, mind you, I thought this might be from my understanding... but... being they're most expensive piece... this was my last choice .. ahhhhhh.. hind sight versus cheap basterd...lol.. trouble with mortgages and families to feed. |
