hey guys, im thinking about buying a supercharger or a turbocharger for my '91 vn s pack. i was just wondering about the pros and cons of each one, and the approximate maximum power i would expect to gain (as a percentage)on a turbo or a supercharger. its around a max of 50% for a supercharger isnt it?
i ran a search but i could not find anything relevant. sorry if any of you guys find something on the search my connection is pretty dodgy.
mitch out.

| so you would expect around a 40-50% increase in power from a good quality supercharger? |

The first thing to work out is how much power you do want to have. If you throw either at it without much thought you could end up with 20% increase. If you pick properly and get all the other work done too (exhaust, extractors, intercooler, custom tune), then the sky's the limit.
Keep in mind that a turbo takes time to spool up, where as the supercharger is good to go from idle. It depends on how you drive. If you're getting around town mainly or just cruising then I'd say look at a supercharger, if you're happy to live with turbo lag (and a much higher setup cost) as well as keeping the revs a little higher, then a turbo would be the way to do it.
With a VN V6 (assuming that everything is stock), my pick would be the supercharger. Now all you've got to work out is how much you're willing to spend on it. |
