Hey Everyon,
I'm a newbie not only to this forum but to cars. ANyone got any good suggestions on what to secure my car with. Too many are getting stolen in my area.
I own a 5.0L Black VN I've already debadged it so they don't think of stealing those.
Cheers for any suggestions

Well I have a 62kg Rotty named Leo, but on a more practical side of things hidden kill switches.
Also my air horns are hooked into my alarm system, they make a hell of a racket when set off. |

| You can get immobilisers from places like autobarn and even JB have got them. Fairly cheap, and takes a couple of hours to install. The insurance companies like them. Mine saves me a bit each year. |

| I have an ignition shroud and 3 point immobiliser/alarm fitted on my VN and haven't had any problems (they save money on insurance too). An ignition shroud (full metal jacket) is a metal shroud that covers the ignition lock and wiring, making it difficult for thieves to drive away with your car (about $120 fitted) A good engine immobiliser should isolate at least two electrical circuits automatically, to prevent the engine from starting. |

Not so useful for you, but works great on old cars. If you're really worried about the car getting hotwired, just take out the rotor button from the distributor. Nothing anyone does will make it start without that bit.

have you tried taking the rotor button out of a VN 5litre? i wouldn't want to do it everytime i locked my car! here is a simple but effective immobilisor i whipped up. uses a double interlock for the ignition wire and a single point for the starter. can be fitted in 1 hour or less, and costs bugger all. you will need 3 standard relay's and a momentary on push button switch. and of course some wire.... |

you must have the key turned to "on" before you press the switch, or nothing will happen. plus if you turn the key too "on", press the switch and release it will stay energized, ready for starting. but if you turn the key back to acc or off, it will reset the double interlock, so you have to go through the mtions again. you could also add more switches in series for added safety.
i have fitted this to my $500 colt, and it works a treat. i even used an existing dash mounted factory switch, that i dont use anymore. so it looks no different than stock |

| I would only recommend taking out the rotor if you're going to leave it somewhere high-risk for a while (as in more than a few days). That's not a bad little immobilisor. Might have to put that together for my ride. Cheers for sharing. |
