Hi to all
i just signed up as a member but have used the site many times. I have a VN Series 1 V6

My problem is what i believe to be the ignition coils as the motor will not tick over, it is getting fuel as i have checked the lines and apon testing the spark plugs no spark is seen from and of the leads. The question is do all the ignition coils go at once on the series 1 cause normaly the engine should start but only run on 4 cylinders. Im planing to go to the wrekers ang get a new ignition modular as this is what i believe to be the problem. Does any1 know what eles it could be? I have it booked in to the mechanics on Monday apon faling the new modular, but hate paying for something that i can do myself so any ideas on what else it coulkd be would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

I take it that the engine turns over but does not start?? Do you have any fault codes present?? If not the best place to start would be your DFI module(the module that your coil packs are attached to). Being a series one your coil packs should be one module. Next question do you have a gregory's manual?? If so there is a complete step by step procedure on how to test your DFI module using a multimeter. If not you should invest in one. There is a wealth of knowledge in it and they only cost between $30-$40 from Supercheap or Autobarn or those such stores. All else failing i will try and find where my Series one book has disappeared to and get back to you if nobody else has before hand. Good luck and Welcome to the club.

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

Also on a VN onwards Commodore V6 (especially VN). If the DFI module (the module sandwiched under the coil packs) stuffs up on you on the side of the road try this... remove the coil packs and then turn on the ignition for a minute or two. The DFI module is spit into 3 separate modules (as the coil pack is also 3 separate coils). After the ignition has been on for some time feel (with your fingers) each individual module section and see which one is the hottest (careful, one may be very hot). The hottest one is the one that is shorted out. unplug that individual module and tape up the wires. Then replace the coil packs and you can limp home on 4 cylinders.

Thanks it was the coil pack went and brought a new1, i rang around the first place i got quoted was for $150. Thought that was a bit of bull, so the next place was Advanced Auto Salvege at Lonsdale SA and got it for half that. Anyone who is in the adelaide district should go there for parts they wreck only holden and have a heap of commodores + raeally helpful and friendly.

Good to hear that it was a relitively quick and inexpensive fix.
