Ok, im looking for opinions and advice. I currently own a VN Series 2 V6 Berlina, Auto commodore, that is ONE OWNER(parents) with 145,000 genuine km's on the clock. The car is white and immaculate, has factory LSD.
It runs beautifully, but I miss my manual, so was considering buying a VP V8 manual commodore. Fuel consumption isnt an issue, it will just be a weekend car, as ill be at uni monday to friday. The V8 manual sound great!
Opinions on whether to hang onto the one owner commodore or buy a big manual V8?! Cheers fellas

the 5.0L V8 in the VN/VP has incredible potential if you feel like exploiting it a bit (even a custom memcal can unleash a lot of extra ponies).
Since the engine in the Berlina is such a low km engine, and by all accounts it sounds like it's a rather straight car. It has a known history, you know exactly what has and hasn't been done to/with it.
I'd be inclined to say drop a manual in the Berlina. A full conversion can be done fairly easily, it's getting to be a common mod.
Said and done though, it's entirely up to you, there's something really attractive about the V8 option, but I really love the V6 with a manual behind it. The biggest advantage that you've got with the car that you have at the moment is that it's a completely known car. You get a second hand V8, you don't know how it's been treated. |

Yeah, the VN 5 speeds are incredibly quick, and reliable. My first VN S pac manual was fully rebuilt, stage 2 cam and head package, custom tune, full exhaust, lsd with shortened gear ratio's and by god did that thing chew up V8's...
All that said, i've never actually driven a manual V8, so i might look at test driving one, they appear for roughly $4.5 -$5 grand in the weekly paper, so its relatively cheap, but most likely thrashed...
A manual in my Berlina would be good, but wouldnt it cost heaps?! I dunno how to load a pic of my Berlina?!

| From what I've heard you can normally get the conversion done for about $1500 including the box. Of course the cost depends on how much of the work you do yourself. |

Id stick with ur Berlina. The $1500 for the conversion sounds about right as well. Plus, LSD u lucky basta*d! Another thing, i no you can change them, but the headlights are ugly as. Anyway, up to you. A clean as V6, or a 'could be' thrashed V8. Choices Choices Choice. Way up the pros and cons on a piece of paper, then youll get your answer. |
