My series 2 vn wagon is still fluctuating. since changing the fuel, air and oil filters the problem persists. I have changed the spark plugs and the coil pack which is from my step fathers vt. this proved to be a major improvement - however when the engine gets too warm and up to proper operating temperature it fluctuates and does not idol smoothly missing and carrying on - it has not backfired yet - however i think it is on the cards. What do i do? any suggestions? I am thinking about spending the money and taking it to a commodore specialist. what to do?

was the fuel line brittle when you changed the filter?

Cheers,

is the idle changing from high revs back to normal? if so u might want to check your stepper motor on your throttle body. it could be sticking.

No lol they were perfectly fine. checked all the hoses. it just does not want to idol properly and when it gets up to operating temperatures it starts to get worse and then it will back fire and die. its is really character building - especially when you are in the middle of brisbane CBD.

When sitting in park. you can here it fluctuating as it is idoling. under light acceleration and i mean 'light' it brings out the problem more making it louder. then you rev it to the redline and it sounds fine. it only seams to be doing it in the lower rev band. But then again like i said - when it gets hot it shuts down. My wagon is confusing me!

If you've done all filters, spark plugs and the coil the next place I'd be looking is the ignition module. I wouldn't have thought the IAC would cause a miss but its worth giving everything a try. If a mate doesn't have an igition module you can borrow to test that out I'd be heading off to a see a sparky mate- if its a lil' out of budget right now, just get a diagnosis and then do the work yourself if it isn't too complicated.

If the car works fine higher in the rev range, I'd say you could rule out anything too catastrophic.

i could name alot of things but didnt you say the problem came after you serviced the car? the problem you describe is similar when i got some irridiums for my 6 cylinder, got home put them in and it ran fine when at low revs but would backfire under full throttle, i went back to supercheap bought another set, installed them and it fixed the problem. when i transport spark plugs, tailshafts, etc i take extra care as they are very fragile

Cheers,
Nodg.
