Well for starters there is the issue of copying and pasting of other ppls info. This has happened to me ( i had to take down ecotecvb.tk which took 2 years to do, it was all a waste when ppl used my pics and info and claimed it as theirs.) This also happened to several Vn members too. Then we have numerous forums, one in particular is Justcommodores where this has happened.
Oh yes Airstrike, I believe you and others from JC have pissed of more than one of the well respected members of vncom on JC.
I could go on and on why many readers dont deserve the correct info....
I will never contribute to a forum with these kind of ppl

Geez, talking about my favourite topics on here already! Only took what, less than 24 hours!!! You have said a lot of what I could have, so I'll add my piece......
The beauty of the old VN was that if the dickhead syndrome popped up, they were usually quashed within minutes (remember fagna boy??), not left to go on for days & piss off a heap of people.
The forum was still open however, and this allowed "guests" to copy info & pics and paste it into other forums. This is not a reflection at all on VNcom members, as they were signed up & contributing, it was people from other forums that did such things, and didn't even have the guts to sign up. This is the main reason I prefer a closed forum, and my thoughts are echoed by numerous people.
The secret lab that started off late in the life of VNcom "series 1" helped in some respect, and it was a major leap forward in the right direction. The "new" forum - which kicked off in late August 2004 - has nipped all those issues in the bud by being an invitation only forum, with the server logs diligently monitored to see what(and who) pops up. Every member on there can be trusted, and there have been no breaches of trust at all.
I have numerous "sources" who participate in many forums, and these guys often email me a link to a post (or copy it out into an email/screenshot if it's a forum I refuse to go back to) where something I have posted somewhere has been abused. I know of numerous people who have done such things, and they are not welcome in the private forum, but how can you stop them viewing an open forum?
Even worse is when a group of "moderators", and I use that term VERY loosely, lock a thread, then re-open it simply to add their own comment, then lock it again to prevent an even sided debate. Total immaturity, and it was just like schoolgirls joining in a bitching session. I have a long memory, and I will never go back to that site.
The chemistry of a successful site cannot be replicated easily. It takes a lot of time for members to build up relationships, and build up a reputable, enjoyable, and mature forum. I believe that without a private section this forum will suffer to a degree from those who have been burnt before, but if "the secret lab" returns for only validated members, then that may be a solution.

This is a very touchy subject with regards to the copy and paste issue and I see it being bought up at every opportunity from certain same members which from Just Commodores point of view is somewhat unfair.
We were made aware of the issues and have done everything in our power to stop the 'copy & paste' artists but unfortunately you really have to get a nice balance between locking out new members which isn't our aim for obvious reasons or limit guest access which is what we have done to eliminate the problem. Locking a forum down then creates problems with for the likes of MSN or Google bots. IMHO no matter how small or large the forum is you can't watch every single member for every moment of the day but it certainly doesn't help when you have other members from other sites which shall remain anonymous making life difficult.
From a webmaster point of view, unless you have been made aware of these issues generally speaking you aren't going to be able to resolve them without some form of help from the members. |

Is this what it's going to be like? I do not want the bitching here and will start to remove such topics. I will also start to split the topics when they go off topic as this one clearly has.

As I touched on previously it seems no matter what, 1 - 2 people appear to attempt (attempt being the keyword but failed miserably) to damage the reputation of Just Commodore on each and every chance he has due to past disagreeances, copy and efforts or whatever else happened quite a while ago. Frankly, I think I have the right to be peeved and am really sick and tired of it.
I/We have tried our hardest to a) remove those members in questions b) remove threads/posts but this just doesn't seem to be enough.
I mean what else can one do? |

Notice I NEVER named the forum??
Funny how you seem to infer that I do.
I have been attacked by members of such on other forums where they have named it in an open forum, and I have often replied to the post, but I have never gone out & actively named it.
The particular toybox thread on one forum where 2 members decided to have a shot (which was retaliated by other members before questions were asked) I simply called it a "Melbourne based forum" of which there are a number.....
I can give you plenty of examples from 3 other forums I am on where members have approached me in both neutral & negative ways - even as recently as a couple of months ago on Fastlane.com - unfortunately before the rebuild of the site into the new format, so I can't give you a working URL.
I have saved logs of some of the PMs and posts over it, and I could find them on the old PC as required.
As for being unfair? How does pointing out plagiarism breaches to mods of a particular forum in PMs, then seeing NOTHING done for 3 days, when conveniently another issue comes up, and within minutes I end up getting a nasty PM over it from a mod?
Then the audacity of the mods to have a slinging session about me, conveniently unlocking it to have a shot, then locking the topic to prevent reply from non-mods.
And finally the suck-up PMs on another forum (which just so happens to be the first one to pop up when you google "commodorenut") from a key member, who was not even half aware of what went on because people were too gutless to admit their actions! I could not retrieve the evidential PMs to copy them to him due to the account being locked.
I have every right to publicly name the forum, but I don't, as I have respect for the work behind it, unlike some of the immature members on there.

Good idea, no probs.
Darren: You are not the only one who has the right to be peeved off. You have always done the right thing by me, but I can't say the same for some of the members or mods -That goes for alot of forums. The actions of these ppl leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and certainly won't be forgotten. If you are going to point the finger at someone, look at the attitude of these ppl, they are the ones who create the bad reputation and at the same time burn bridges for everyone else.
Anything less than the way it was with the old vn commodore is unacceptable.
PS: I dont think David wants the bitching here, im happy to take it to pm's etc..

| It's hard to find a fourm to get the right information in which would benefit the user. What annoys me that there are some people out there tries to destroy or make money which degrade in which is counter productive and cause serious problems. |

wow the sites back :)
I still think jaws and commodorenut are two of the most knowledgeable guys on all the forums. Without their help myself and heaps of other guys would not have a car to work on. I think they have the right to be pissed off.
Well done guys and thanks for all the help I have gotten from you. |

The only civilized way to share information between forums is (IMHO) to paste a link to the information from one to the other.
I have found a few forumseses (fori?) where there is excellent info on a subject I am interested in, and then shortly thereafter a thread on that topic pops up in another. Rather than copy and paste the info (and look smarter than you are, and run the risk of getting caught out, because the people who do know this stuff know these threads also) I would link to the previous forum.
If the previous forum is not able to be linked to, it is only courtesy to go back to the original provider in the original forum and either bring their attention to the new request for the same info, or ask if you can pass it on. |
