Hey everyone,
I recently discovered i blew a hole in my resonator because it was very rusted.

My question is, Can i replace it with a straight pipe & also install a cannon on the end (I already bought the cannon) This would be done professionally, I just want to know if it will work ok and will it be roadworthy for NSW.

Thanks :)

Jamie Bowe Posted - 17 May 2011 : 4:23:24 PM
just realized thats the end muffler, i need the middle one ):
Jamie Bowe Posted - 16 May 2011 : 11:29:06 PM
yea thats true, ill check on my car in the morning and see if its the same :D
VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 10:05:32 PM
cheaper then getting a shop to do it and you get a bit of experience too
VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 9:52:54 PM
it should fit as they are the same engines so same exhaust and if you jack your car up on the back passenger side and take your wheel off there will be the exhaust and you should be able to unbolt yours (two bolts) and put my one on its a pretty easy job to do mate
Jamie Bowe Posted - 16 May 2011 : 9:43:22 PM
alright cool, its what i need, so it should fit a toyota lexcen fine? would i just take it to a muffler place and get them to install it?

VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:41:59 PM
that's the one that goes over the diff and sticks out the back of the car
VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:40:39 PM
nar mate its the resonator the middle one is the muffler do you need a muffler
Jamie Bowe Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:36:23 PM
I wouldn't mind it, but is that the middle muffler?
VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:34:00 PM
unless you have irs then the pipe will be different but it will just bolt straght on mate if you want it
VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:32:59 PM
here mate its a bit dirty but no holes just spray it black

VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:25:18 PM
free i have one at my house you can just bolt it straght to your exhaust i will put up a pic for you
Jamie Bowe Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:16:34 PM
do you know how much it would cost to just install a new resonator
VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:13:06 PM
i will take a look mate i think i have my old exhaus sitting out the back i will go check
Jamie Bowe Posted - 16 May 2011 : 5:09:01 PM
nar, even if i did i would still spend all my money getting it done then i would have to remove it to pass its roadworthy
VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 4:40:43 PM
do you have a decibel reader on your phone or laptop
Jamie Bowe Posted - 16 May 2011 : 4:37:17 PM
Yea, i would do that, but its gonna be to loud for its road worthy ):
VNGRPA Posted - 16 May 2011 : 2:18:44 PM
dam that's a rip off where abouts was that ,if the hole is in the resonator they should cut it off and weld a straight pipe on for cheap as the pipe is only worth $35 -40 welding should cost no more then $50 ,so that's means they are charging you $90 to put a cannon on a pipe that is already there (that's daylight robbery)
Jamie Bowe Posted - 16 May 2011 : 1:56:48 PM
Ok, so i just went into a muffler place around the corner from mine, the guy said it will be 180 to do what i wanna do but it wont pass the road worthy. So i was thinking i'll just replace my broken muffler with a stock one now and then get a sports resonator and add the cannon on after the roadworthy.

Only one other thing to remember. The ADR on noise levels for the VP was 92 decibels. This was the maximum permissible volume, drive by at 60km/h 100 Decibels is how loud a car alarm is. So long as it isn't Harley kind of loud, it's legal
Jamie Bowe Posted - 14 May 2011 : 5:07:40 PM
Really under 100? That would be great! I'll ask around a few places and see what happens. Thanks again :)
VNGRPA Posted - 14 May 2011 : 5:05:26 PM
should be under $100 mate thats your cut off your new one put on and the rubbers replaced that should be the max at a exhoust place also welcome
Jamie Bowe Posted - 14 May 2011 : 5:02:47 PM
Alright thanks mate, do you know if its going to be pricey? I have the cannon already, all they need to do is replace the resonator & install the cannon
VNGRPA Posted - 14 May 2011 : 4:49:26 PM
yep as long as it is on there properly with exhaust rubbers to hold it up you will be fine
