This is going to be a silliest topic to get help on...... but please remember that I know only little and am teaching myself......

I've never done a coolant flush, which flamin hose do i disconnect to successfully do this?? There are heater hoses, radiator hoses etc etc

My VN seems to be overheating but not to the point of stalling... the temp gauge will increase but then down again... vica versa.... I have stopped once and there has been bubbling in the surge tank which makes me think it could be the head gasket, but it only bubbles when stopped, not when the car is on.....

Can anyone shed any light on what i may need to do???

as for the overheating and bubbles in water it sounds like it has air in the system

LOL Thanks for making me feel better...... :)

I replaced one of the hoses on the back part of the engine, failing to do a flush to get all the air out then, would that explain the bubbles in the surge tank????

to get all air out you need to idle the car for a while with the surge tank cap off

when you say bubbles do you mean while its idling you can see small bubbles rising from the bottom up? or just on the surface as there is a small hose that comes into the tank from the top that sprays water in the tank which sometimes can create bubbles in the water. also a blown head gasket would also cause the engine oil to turn a milky color and you will be losing water.

good luck

Thanks M8.....

Its when the car stops it bubbles pretty badly like your blowing bubbled thru a straw in a glass LOL..... Not little bubbles.... I dumped the oil and changed the filter the other day and there were no signs of water in the oil.... So I guess its not a blown head gasket??

I will idle the car with the surge tank off and see what happens.... Cheers....

just a question is it a s1 or s2 motor, and from the sounds of it you have blocked water jackets!

and the best way to bleed air out of the coolant system is on the s1 motor (thats the motor with the stainless pipe running to the back) flush and fill the were you thermohousing is , release the hose clamp just enough so you can hear the air escaping! on the s2 motor there is a air bleeder screw on the thermo housing!

What I tried doing was taking the 5ltr coolant bottle filled radiator and coolant bottle with water. with engine running I jammed the coolant bottle into the mouth of the radiator. in the hope the thermostate would open and suck the water out of the coolant bottle........this of course does not work. It turns out the only thing this does is pressurises the cooling system which when you remove the bottle from the radiator you get a steady fountain of water spouting out of the radiator. and I had to start filling all over again.
