Hi,
i have a vn s1 engine in a mk2 escort race car, it was running then stopped. it cranks over but has no spark, i have replaced the dfi, coil pack & crank angle sensor all brand new.
i have check every fuse, fusable link etc, the wiring checks out for continuity from the dfi to crank sensor & from ecu to dfi. dfi & coil pack both read in tolerance for resistance. it was running a haltec but i have changed to a std ecu & still no difference.
have checked the harmonic balancer & it looks ok but i will try a different 1, there is plenty of fuel pressure & the injectors are working as i smell fuel when it cranks.

any ideas on what it could be as it has me stuffed.

cheers

Hopefully you have the ALDL plug as part of your wiring for the motor. If you connect a 12V dash lamp to the Brown/white wire and the other end to +ve of the battery you'll get the check lamp functionality when you put the short the appropriate pins of the ALDL plug this is from the Holden wiring diagram.
The one other thing that has stopped other motors has been missing / poor earth between motor and chasis.

yes, it's not something that people expect to see in an escort. i have the correct crank angle sensor, i had the car at an auto electrician they said they couldn't find anything wrong but at the time couldn't access the ecu as it was the haltec. with the std ecu in i can see if they can put their scan guage on it, it only runs a basic dash so i don't have a light to see what codes it has.

cheers

so you have a Holden vn ser 1 motor in a ford mk2 escort thats a little strange but good on you for being different,
and your saying it cranks but has no spark did you use the right crank angle sensor there are 2 different colours a white and a black one, have you done a code check mate to see if anything comes up
